Bad news and Good news.... In a way.

We got lucky with the 3rd puppy who Is currently being treated like royalty In his new manor but puppy Accountable was due to go to his new home. He was to be re-named Milo so we began to call him that so he got used to It.

Two days ago, we did the home visit and we were suspicious. Usually when people prepare for a new puppy, there Is a new basket In the house, toys etc etc.

There was no sign of anything like that and when we went out In the garden, we saw two other dogs In a shed. They were well treated and certainly not neglected but the guy let slip he wanted Milo for breeding when he talked about how difficult It was to get a Tri-coloured Jack these days because they make the most money. That was the bad news...

The good news was we refused to hand puppy Milo over, refunded the deposit and came home home with him.

We have decided he Isn't going any where now and we will keep him along with Snoozie Maud.

Click pic to enlarge... Milo In fore ground and Snoozie behind In the garden yesterday.

I knew it! You should've been tipped off when you heard the name "Milo". So common. Thanks for saving the pup. :yh_worshp

My husband was saying last night that he doesn't like the name Milo... he says It just doesn't suit so perhaps members could suggest some names for us?

I rather like Caspar.

Thanks Acc... we were both adamant that no-one was making money out of him. :-5

Being "off forum" for about a year, i missed a lot of info.. So i'm not up to date on things..

Do you breed doggies? i must be honest and say i would never breed with dogs or my own cats ( kitties have been neutered anyway, and only live indoors) because i believe there a already to many dogs and kitties that need a loving home on this planet.. But big compliments on your " handling the situation ". Never seen or heard such a good "check" done on potential new owners.. Well done.

No, I don't breed " Doggies ". :o

I allow my female dogs to have one litter while they are young.

I have a great deal of experience In dog rescue In all breeds and although many argue against It, from my experience In dog rescue, I firmly believe It makes a bitch calmer.

Whilst It Is commendable to suggest rescue over new puppy, the fact remains that many people especially with children, will not risk taking a rescue dog and opt for a new puppy although I have never sold a puppy to people with very young children.

The Mother of my puppies herself was rescue so please don't lecture me.

I have read your post again and sorry, but I still find It patronising.

My hackles go up when someone who knows nothing about me assumes I know nothing about the plight of abandoned dogs and cats.

I am known as ' A Special Friend ' at ' Dogs Trust' the largest UK Dog rescue charity.

Dogs Trust - Home

I have worked In the past for the RSPCA

I also donate to the Barking Army that raises funds to help abused dogs worldwide.

During my adult life I have taken the trouble dogs and cats due for euthenasia and through time and patience, turned them around.

I also donate to Greyhound Rescue and Persian Rescue.

All my donations go out monthly by direct debit from my bank.

I also worked tirelessly for decades to sabotage hunts and to see Fox Hunting abolished In this country for I am Oscar. I am the Fox Whisperer.

Sure, I don;t know It all, but I certainly don't need reminding about abandoned dogs looking for homes.

sorry you feel that way oscar i wasnt meaning to insult, i just ment i do not breed with cats or dogs, most of the animals i have, have been dumped on me thats all. Like i said before it is nice to hear you do such a good check on potential new homes, i dont hear people doing that very often..

oscar;1432550 wrote: Why do your cats only live Indoors ? They are outside animals.... a house Is just a large cage,

i do not believe cats are outdoor creatures. not anymore anyway. tigers and lions etc yes, house cats, no. i live on a busy road wich is loaded with traffic and ambulances ( i live across the hospital). ambulances speed past my house so fast they almost rip my windows off the house. my vet said he has never seen such muscelly cats before in his life. i have 2 floor to ceiling cat trees to entertain them, along with beds and toys all over the house. besides we have a large cat **** problem in this area because owners let the cats out and they **** all over everybodies gardens. not to mention there are lots of non cat friendly people here. 4 cats went missing just the other week, some found back poisoned other was beaten, according to the vet the cat seemed to be kicked/beaten or something like that. so therefor my cats are safe inside, with their toys and warm beds where i know what they're up to and cant eat anything dangerous.

Just like to add oscar, i never assumed anything. i dont know you or your life /life style thats the reason i asked.

I never said you had no clue what you were doing or something like that. the other thing that raised the question was if you had puppies then why not rehome alfie with the familie that wanted to breed from him, i wonderd why that caused you to decide to not rehome him with that familie.

but you answered my question by saying you only breed from the bitches once because you believe it makes them calmer etc. ok fair enough and then i understand why you didnt rehome alfie with the person that called him milo.

Nodbody knows everything and thats ok, i've studied animal care at school for 4 years, doesn't mean to say i know everyting either. I just do my best to take care of my little " zoo" , and i enjoy every minute of it.

liked the picture by the way, alfie is very handsome! :)

In this country, authorities could give notice for developers to clear a site Intended for building of wild Feral cats. If they are not removed In the given time, the authorities can gas them.

Years ago I used to go out with a charity In Brighton where we trapped them. They were Immediately neautered by voluntary Vets and returned to the site.

One such case, we didn't get all of them and they were gassed. One tiny kitten survived.

I took him home and called him Cassy. When he was small he was fine but as he got older the Feral Instinct took over and he became wild.

I never let him out of the house.

One day my Father reminded me about how I cried as a child at the animals In cages In the Zoo and told me my house was just a very large cage.

That night I said goodbye to Cassy and let him go out.

He came back !!!!

He never came In the house again but spent his life living under my Veranda coming to the kitchen window for food when he was hungry.

I guess some will still always have "some wild" left in them :)

Stewie, dumpling, sybil and polly (my cats), well lets say if you let them out they would stand in the middle of the road and whilst a truck would near, they'd roll over and start paddling!

I do not favour any of my cats but stewie has the sweetest character, he had to learn "kitty" behaviour from dumpling. Stewie was taken from his mummy at about 4,5 weeks. Because the breeder didn't want the kittens in the house anymore. Via Via he ended up with us at about 9 weeks. He knew to find his bowl and litterbox but that was about all. He does not "speak" he purrs or just opens his mouth without making a noise (he can, but if he does, he jumps, as if to say WHO DID THAT!), and he is not very good at washing himself. He'll be 3 in october and he is getting better at speaking and washing as he watches the others. But he'll always be a bit behind regards cat behaviour.

But even on bad or sad days, he makes me laugh. As he just did right now.. :)

Like I said my house is more of a zoo then a "human home " with all of the animals we got given/rescued (4 cats, 2 guinea pigs, 2 small birds in our outside aviary, 4 poison dart frogs, a small aquarium, about 10 stick insects, a giant african landsnail (brian), mathilda our huge spider, 3 adult ratsnakes, 28 just hatched baby ratsnakes (the 2 females turned out to be pregnant before we got given them..), and 3 little quite rare snakes someone found in their imported pot plants). So yeah we have some work to do on finding the baby snakes new homes, because 28 baby snakes grow up and are to many to keep. My house is full enough as it is, but i enjoy taking care of them :)

Alfie and Snoozie Maud are 12 weeks now.

Snooze Is a dainty little thing and rather precautious while Alfie Is muscular and a right bonzo bruiser Into everything.

Trying to train them not to harass the cat right now.

What a turn up of events today !!!!

After deciding to keep Milo and newly named Alfie, we got a call.

A retired couple who have been looking for the right puppy for a few months. They had actually seen an old advert with his photograph and rang to ask If we still had him.

We got chatting and It ended up with them driving over to our house where we spent some time talking.

They just fell In love with him so we drove with them back to their house ( to check them out ) and the upshot Is, It would have been foolish to turn them down because he will have a wonderful life. Puppy took to them straight away. He has a lovely big house, huge garden and he'll be spoiled rotten.

Meanwhile, a pic of puppies Mum, our Rosie on the left and the Father of the puppies, my friends ' Mouse ' today In the garden.

HELP

Another turn of events...

Another phone call today from a couple desperate for a true Minature Jack Russell...and had seen pics of the puppies In an old advert.

We began by saying.... sorry, we are keeping the female. But again we got chatting and they were so dissapointed because they went on to tell us what a wonderful home she would have.

They have a farm In the middle of the countryside that backs onto Longleat grounds. Although It was stated quite firmly that she would be even sleeping on their bed, the husband goes shooting most days and puppy would be taken along with him. They also have stables and horses and puppy would have a wonderful life... a life In fact that every dog should have.

Would It be selfish of me to deny Snoozie Maud this kind of life ?

If we are convinced In parting with her, then plan B would come Into operation where we would adopt elderly rescue dogs again.

My heart says keep her but my head says let her go and then we can offer a home to a rescue.

What would you do folks?

I don't think I can give you a useful answer to be honest..

I always find it heartbreaking to even think about the idea to let an animal go, as i see them as my children.

But it does sound like a doggies dream home, i must admit.. And there is the part you mentioned: " but my head says let her go and then we can offer a home to a rescue. "

In plan B 2 dogs will have a happy home ?

Very difficult decision.. Good luck..

Today my husband over to the village near Warminster In Wiltshire to have a look where Snoozie Maud could be going to check them out. Yep, farm house, stables, horses and a farm. She will In the main be with the wife down on the farm and the stables every day and then out hunting twice a week with the husband and their two Springer Spaniels.

It's a life I can not deny her and they are coming to collect her tomorrow.

They want to keep In touch so we will still see her from time to time.

Tonight I am puppiless.

They came over to collect Snoozie Maud and we spent a few hours with them. Lovely, Lovely people, lovely and smashing children who just fell In love with her.

I told them how she harasses's the cat but she now has a new home where she has chickens, horses and live stock to contend with along with an enormous amount of land and woods to live her life In. Every little dogs dream home and It would have been selfish to deny her that.

The two girls have called her ' Rizzo '

We were still agonising and they came over last night and we spent a few hours with them. Snoozie really took to them which helped make the decision and I can honestly say she never looked back as they carried her to the car.

She will In the main be spending her days with the wife on the farm and In the stables and also going out hunting with the husband. She has a huge amount of land and private woods all to herself but I did have a sneaky giggle at the thought of her and all the free range chickens given that I have spent all week trying to stop her harassing our cat.

Peter had really bonded with her but the life she will have Is every little dog's dream. We really missed her last night ( the cat didn't ) but I like to think we did the right thing by her and not own own needs.

I am very excited now about the prospect of taking abused and abandoned dogs again. In a way Snoozie has saved a life because she's made room for a lost soul.

They are keeping in touch and I have also been Invited by them for free horse riding on their farm any time.
