So even with a month to go, the movers and shakers are In action getting ready.

I am delighted to hear today that trainer Paul Nicholls has sold ' Sanctuaire' to champion Irish Trainer Willie Mullins for £170,000 By all accounts ' Blackie' as his grooms called him was the most difficult horse In the yard but he did manage to give even Henderson's Sprinter Scare an early challenge last year. My own humble opinion Is that Nicholls never maximised the horse's full potential and I am delighted he's on his way to Ireland where I am sure Mullins will be far more canny at race entries.

Sir Des Champs 8

Silviniaco Conti 4

Me, as the season gets underway, I will be keeping a very close eye on Silviniaco Conti to see If his fall In this years Gold cup was just a blip. If It was then I am still confident he can beat Bobs Worth, Long Run and Sir Des Champs.

What about Flemenstar ? Again, I'll be watching this season to see If he has recovered from his lung Infection that put him out of action and watch to see If he's returned to form.

So Paul Nicholl's has stated now his main hopes lie with the recovered Tidal Bay, the recovered Big Bucks and the recovered Al Ferof who I was very dissapointed to see out of last years King George due to Injury. Little In the way of fresh blood and we feel totally over-looking the younger prospect Unioniste

Tidal Bay possibly a Grand National entrant even a Gold Cup runner but at 12 years old ? hmmmmm

Big Bucks, will he go for another World Hurdle?

With so much fresh blood and exciting novices at the Henderson and Mullin's yard, I feel this Is another season where Paul Nicholl's will fail to score.

I am absolutely thrilled today to learn from Tim Vaughan Racing that the horse I tipped to win the last two Grand Nationals and being bitterly dissapointed both times when Injuries saw him laid up for both seasons, Is back.

Just can't wait to see him In action again. It'll be Interesting to see where Tim heads him... my guess Is an early stake for the season In the Hennessy Gold Cup.

Thrilled last night to talk to one of Mad Moose's owners.

By all accounts, he's looking good on the gallops but again, they are looking at a ban by the HRA If he refuses to start a race again this season.

Regardless, one things for sure... he'll keep us entertained.

Hunt Ball takes a respectable 9 th In the American Grand National Steeplechase — In Far Hills, New Jersey.

There was uproar among devotee's when Knotty sold him to Atlantic Equine to be taken to America earlier this year.

Rumours are abound today that Hunt Ball Is on his way back to the UK and possibly going back to Kieran Burke or heading for the Henderson yard.

Either, he will get the biggest welcome ever as soon as he touches down back home where he belongs.

In retirement, he looks so different with his coat unshaven.

My big beautiful hero boy Denman.

May get to see him this season with some personal appearences... hopefully soon parading In the former Aon Chase now re-named ' The Denman Chase' In his honour.

Yep, the rumours In neighing circles were right. It's official.

Hunt Ball Is on his way back to the UK and heading straight for Nicky Henderson's yard where he'll join the likes of Sprinter Sacre, Simonsig, Bobs Worth and Long Run although ownership will stay with the new America Owners. Anthony Knott was a fool to sell him especially to America turf where UK fences suit him far better.... He'll go Into quarantine but under Nicky Henderson ???? Now watch him fly.

So tomorrow the National Hunt season really kicks In with the Big Guns making their first appearences of the season at Down Royal, Ireland.

AP McCoy rides at Wetherby and will be looking for his record 4,000 winners.

So Down Royal.

The 12.50 I'm looking at Willie Mullins Gitane Du Berlais

The 1.20......................Gordon Elliot's No More Heroe's

The 2.30.... I'm looking at a r/v f/c with Sizing Europe and First Luitenant Although I would dearly love to see a return to form of Kaut's baby brother Kauto Stone.

The 3.05........ Tofino Bay

The 3.40........Twin Plan

Tomorrow at Wetherby.

The 1.50 pm.... Looks like the money Is on Une Artiste with AP McCoy on board but I'm not so sure and I will be going with Alan King's L'unique.

The 3.00 pm... This Is going to be Interesting... A couple of my favourite horses are running here, Paul Nichol's Tidal Bay and Donald McCain's Across The Bay. Also running one of the smallest horses on the circuit, Medinas a Cheltenham Festival winner along with Captain Sunshinebut for me, with a run, It has to be At Fishers Cross

The 3.35 pm and bring out the superstar big guns !!!

Heading the field, the money Is on Gold Cup winner Long Run. Some fine horses In there with Benefficient who believe me, I have not and will never forget him denying me my accumulator when he became ' The Giant Killer' at Cheltenham beating Dynaste Into 2nd. The Irish raider has AP McCoy on board.

Cape Tribulation Is another horse I like but for me, I'm going to stick my neck out here and go for Paul Nichol's Unioniste a young horse I rate very highly.

Just one winner for me today. Twin Plan at Down Royal.

3 pm.... At Fishers Cross a Non Runner but I did say that Tidal Bay was one of my favourite chasers and he's proved at 12 years old that he's still got It, winning In style.... a Grand National entrant Mr Nichol's ?????

3.35 Wetherby... that Gold Cup winner, Lennie aka Long Run wins Impressively with my Unioniste 3rd.

The 2.30.... Blimey, the fastest horse In training bar Sprinter Sacre the brilliant Sizing Europe

gets beaten by an outsider Roi Due Mee... one to watch me thinks.

Still, always risky betting on first appearences of the season.... but Highlight of the day has to be Tidal Bay.

Nothing got me very excited today at Exeter. We decided not to make the trip after Nigel pulled Mad Moose from the race last night after torrential rain.

Yet, Blimey, what a turn up. Cue Card beaten Into 3rd by Somersby Now, what a shame Moosie didn't run considering he has previously trounced Somersby. Could have been a right turn up. Hoping the blunder at the 4th was a blip for Cue Card.

So, one of the biggest races of the season gets under way on the 23rd November at Haydock Park. My wedding anniversary co-Incidently.

The Betfair Chase

Wow, what a line up !!!

Henderson Is not yet ready to commit weather Long Run will go to post.

Roi Du Mee beat one of the fastest horses In training Saturday at Down Royal, Sizing Europe... might have an each way punt there at 12/1

For me, I am hoping the fall In this years Gold Cup was a blip and Silviniaco Conti Is on form... I'm more likely to go for a rv/fc with Bobs Worth

Dynaste Is another entrant I rate very highly.

It's an exciting line up and will be a close one. Yet, I will stick my neck out and tip Silviniaco Conti to win. Winner of The Charlie Hall, The Denman Chase and last years Betfair, I believe he can beat Bobs Worth.

7-4 Bobs Worth, 3-1 Silviniaco Conti, 8-1 Tidal Bay, 10-1 Dynaste, First Lieutenant, Long Run, 12-1 Cue Card, Roi Du Mee, 14-1 Harry Topper, 16-1 The Giant Bolster, 20-1 Imperial Commander, 25-1 Cape Tribulation, 28-1 Prince De Beauchene, 33-1 Wayward Prince, 40-1 Cloudy Too, 150-1 Mr Moonshine.

Well, I said early on In this thread that I would be watching Flemenstar closely this season to see If he has recovered from the lung Infection that put him out of action last year.

A comfortable win at Navan by 7 lengths despite being taken on by Big Zeb today and Immediately shortening his odds for the Gold Cup In 2014 from 9/1 to 7/1

Looks like the plan Is to now restore him to 2 and a half miles In the John Durkan Chase at Punchestown on 9 December. Then 3 miles In The Lexus In December.

In either one, he's likely to fight It out with Sir Des Champ... now that will be a toughy.

Just delighted to see the boy back In racing.

Saturday 16th November and at Cheltenham, The Paddy Power Gold Cup.

It's worth noting that 43 of the last 53 years, winners have been returned at 10/1 or less.

Yet having said that, favourites do not fair well In this race with only 14 out of the last 53 winning the race.

It's also worth noting that since 1991, every winner had won over 2 and a half miles previously.

Out of the last 15 years, 12 winners had previously won over fences at Cheltenham.

This leaves me with a slight dilemma. I do like my stats but one of my most highly rated chasers Is running here. He fits every criteria except that he Is the favourite. But I am going with my gut Instinct that If he's on form, I don't believe there's much that will be a menace to him.

Dynaste straight win.

But...

There's a couple In here I like and rate highly.

Rajdhani Express If ridden by my least favourite amateur Jockey Sam Twiston-Davis, but I believe the horse not the Jockey could be worth an each way punt at 10/1.

Salut Flo and Finians Rainbow possibly a place but at 25/1, I'm having a cheeky each way punt on Wishful Thinking

Sunday 17th November Cheltenham

After pulling him In the Haldron Gold Cup, the Mercurial Mad Moose runs at Cheltenham In the 2.40.... I will have a small each punt on him.

The 14.10 pm.... a few In here I rate highly. I'd love to see a return to form for Nichol's Dodging Bullets. I also rate Jonjo O'Neills Tarquin Du Seuil but for me, a straight win on Tony Martin's Ted Veale

The 3.15..... would love to see a return to form from Rolling Star and again, a few here I rate highly. Court Ministrel and Flaxen Flare but I'm staying with Alan King's L'unique

So my bets for the day...

Hurricane Fly Winner.... makes It his 17th grade 1

City Slicker.............Winner

Mad Moose... Did he or didn't he? Well he did start...sort of.... thought about It far too long before breaking Into a half Interested canter but still managed a respectable 6th

Ted Veale....Well, I did say that I'd really like to see a return to form for Dodging Bullets and I am absolutely delighted to see him win today and I did sneak In a cheeky place bet on him late In the day.

L'unique.... Badly hampered out of the race which a loose horse saw even the Champ AP McCoy unseated

Further news.... Nicky Henderson has confirmed Long Run for the Betfair Chase Saturday as also Dynaste has been confirmed.... It'll upset the betting but I'm on my way to Haydock Park for what Is going to be the Mother of all showdowns.

Robert Waley-Cohen has announced that Long Run Is likely to run The Grand National rather than The Gold Cup.

Frankly, I don't believe his reasoning for one moment.

Let's not forget that Long Run only won the Gold Cup In 2011 because Kauto Star fell and Imperial Commander suffered a ruptured blood vessel during the race.

For one, Sam Waley-Cohen Is an amateur jockey who does not possess the skill to get him over the Aintree hurdles safely. For some time followers of ' Lennie' Long Run have been calling for a jockey change to maximise the horses potential.

Two, followers believe that the horse has been on the decline for the past two years and I believe Mr Waley-Cohen, you damn well know that. I believe you have the Idea of retiring the horse because of his piss poor proformance at Wetherby last Thursday. You also know damn well that he was well beaten In April this year by Sir Des Champs at Punchestown. In March of this year he was beaten by Bobs Worth and Sir Des Champs. In November 2012, he was well beaten by Silviniaco Conti. I believe Mr Waley-Cohen you know you haven't a cat In hells chance bar a disaster of beating Sir Des Champs, Silviniaco Conti, Bobs Worth and even Flemenstar In the Gold Cup next March just as you know he's likely to meet them at Punchestown In December should you run him after giving the going as an excuse to pull him.

I believe you are hoping for a repeat of the Nicholls decision In 2012 with Neptune Collognes. The decision to retire the horse but throw him at the biggest steeplechasing event In the hope he'll go out In glory.

Yes, he'll still be a young horse at 9 years but he's not a four plus miler. In fact, are you forgetting how he tired on the hill at Cheltenham this March behind SDC over 3 miles?

And finally, after the 2012 Grand National, we hoped lessons had been learned with you trainers and owners. RIP Synchronised

Mr Waley-Cohen..... you are a muppet. !!!

Oh and what about this last week with Long Run Mr Cohen hmmmmm ?

Well, If I ever wanted a horse to do badly today It was Long Run. What I didn't want was to come here and eat a large portion of humble Pie. He jumped well but tired 5 out endorsing everything I said In my prior rant about entering him for the Grand National. Retire him now Mr Waley-Cohen.

News from neighing circles and the Nichol's yard.... One of my favourite chasers that I have written so much about before Is back. Big Bucks the winner of 4 consecutive world hurdles will return In January after a year out due to Injury.

Looks like the plan Is The Cleeve Hurdle In January, before going on to make a serious attempt to regain his crown In the World Hurdle In March. Big Bucks vs Solwhit ???? It doesn't get better than that. Then on to Aintree.

This Is one horse I have and will continue to travel the length and bredth of the country to see. I still haven't lived down that moment I actually collided with him at Newbury !!! With Ruby Walsh looking at me like I was muppet of the year.

I am deeply saddened today to learn of the death of Madison Du Berlais from colic.

Gave Kauto Star a worthy 2nd In the 2009 King George but for me, I shall remember fondly the moment of Irony he gave me at Newbury In November 2010.

Prising my husband onto a race course, my money was on Denman but for him, he didn't have a clue. I suggested he put his money on either Madison Du Berlais or Neptune Collognes as I advised, both were excellent jumpers. He couldn't make up his mind so he did both each way.

The race got under way and just as they were about to take the fourth fence, I muttered something along the lines of ' You'll get a payout with one of those, they rarely blunder'..... the words hadn't even left my mouth when this happened.

First four fences.

Hennessey Gold Cup Chase 2010 - YouTube

But what I'll always remember Is the way Madison completed the circuit riderless and ran past the grandstand looking at all the spectators as though he'd won.
