Russel Brand .....again.

Comedian Russell Brand was kicked out of the GQ Awards party on Tuesday after cracking jokes about Nazis.

I have mixed feelings about this brash gobby sex mad young man.

He has a extremely annoying manner, but a lot of what he says is hilariously funny and spot on.

The trick is never to watch the little oik. Blackball the tosser solely on the grounds of his past behaviour. I don't care whether he's hilariously funny and spot on, he's beyond the pale.

He is the eternal angry young man, I have seriously never studied him other than watching an occasional performance, or reading about his latest carry on.

He has always grated on me, the same as George Galloway............the phrasing ............the attitude.....the ego. But as with George I have tried to listen to the content and dismiss the delivery of the words.

I have just read his Wikipedia page and I like him more.

He is a very complex fellow, with many faults vegetarian then vegan diagnosed with several mental issues, ex addict, recovering alcoholic...................but outspoken and sensible about many issues including drug rehabilitation.

I am still not a blind devotee of the bloke, but he has far more substance than the headlines he causes.

In certain situations he can be incredibly funny, didn't like him much when he originally bounced onto the scene but think I am warming to him.

Yes Bruv, he did do well there, that whole situation was a bit surreal.

You are not paying attention, I don't think he did that.

He is a clown, that's how he makes a living...........we call them comedians.

He is not a brownish red colour, did you mean moron...... or is it the accent?

I have cringed at some of his act, but then I realised that it was just that, an act. It might draw from his technocolour lifestyle that bears no relation to mine, but hey ho, to each his own.

He didn't call his boss a Nazi, he merely pointed out in a rather satirical way that they designed the uniforms. It's no different than some of our late night talk show hosts making snide remarks about the networks that their shows are on... see David Letterman in particular.

He said, "If any of you know a little bit about history and fashion, you'll know it was Hugo Boss (who) made the uniforms for the Nazis. The Nazis did have flaws, but they did look [expletive] fantastic, let's face it, while they were killing people on the basis of their religion and sexuality!"

Later in his speech, Brand placed a finger under his nose to impersonate Hitler, joking, "I'm a comedian, and it's my job to make jokes about things. Hugo Boss, it's fair enough, he might not have known! 'We're selling a lot of these [expletive] (uniforms), they're flying off the shelves!' Don't take life too seriously, soon we'll all be in the grave. Oh [expletive]!"

OK, not Nazi's. Collaborator, profiteers. Whatever.

If I was the one paying him and the target I would be spitting fire.

I wouldn't know. My reaction to oscar and my reaction to Russell Brand are to all intents and purposes identical, and for much the same reason. As far as I can make out they both regard themselves as amusing when they bully whoever they've decided to target.

It kind of puts it into perspective when Tyr (with a pretentious accent) loads Oscar and Brand into his lists of people to loathe.

Brand said about the deplorable 'Joke' he perpetrated with Ross......

"The thing that the 42,000 people were offended by is offensive. It is offensive if someone calls up an answerphone, does some swearing, hangs up.

But if incrementally that act is led to by a series of innuendos and in-jokes, then it’s a different thing. It’s still a thing that is wrong, but it’s not the thing that they’re offended by."

Which to me sounds spot on................remembering that most people never listened to the original incident, but were enraged by it's repeated reporting.

Brands jokes about Hugo Boss supplying the uniforms was observational, and funny.

If Griffin or Robinson could tell as good a joke, I wouldn't mind at all.

Most humour is cruel, humourous language that has passed into language "Pratt Fall" "Slap stick" ..............all about somebodies misfortune, slipping on a banana skin ? Hilarious apparently if you are the watcher (I didn't make the rules)

Any "good bits", as you term them, are meaningless in the presence of the blundering. Had you been brought up a Christian you'd recognize the concept of graceless, or disgraceful. The chap cannot redeem his actions. It's a theological consequence, not a value judgement.

I have not been harmed by Russell Brand so forgiveness is not a reaction I can legitimately offer.

Forgiveness, unlike redemption, is a freely chosen human gift. Redemption on the other hand depends entirely[1], I was taught, on penitence. A less penitent fellow I have yet to hear of. The closest he's yet got is unacceptable excuses followed by reiterations of how comic he was really.

eta: not entirely, to be strict about it, but penitence is an essential.

I have shuddered embarrased at some of his over the top humour, realised it is for an adult audience, and that I am an adult.

I'm with Bruv after watching the clips that keep being put up. I'd take Brand over Ross any day, and wasn't it Ross that shouted out the offence in the first place? No, Brand shouldn't have run with it, but what on earth possessed Ross to say such a thing, and at least he did seem remorseful. Two people with similar humours got carried away, like children, with no thought of the consequences. For that they were both idiots, but it does seem to be Brand that is continuing to take the flak.
