A family mystery

Came across this photo in a family member's effects

last spring. Before I saw this one, I found several

(photography studio done) photographs of the little

boy in this picture, name "Louis" but no last name.

Then, this picture. The little girl in the photo is my Mom,

Sitting next to her is my grandmother, and behind them,

my maternal great grandparents.

The mystery? Why is my aunt, who was only 2 years

younger than my Mom, not pictured? And who is Louis, that I was

never told about by my Mom? If this was supposed to be a

family picture, where is Louis' father? I hope to learn more

as I get into doing my genealogy, but this is really puzzling,

and a heck of a thing to learn at 60!!

That is interesting, valerie. Is there no one in you family you can inquire about this? I do hope you find some answers.

My sister looked up our families genealogy and it is indeed fascinating. One of the things we found out is that my paternal great-grandfather left his wife and children (including my grandfather as a boy) and just disappeared.

Unfortunately no, nobody left to ask. My Dad is still alive, but I doubt he

would know or remember anything about a boy years before he met my

Mom.

Sad about your great-grandfather. There are so many stories like that,

it's a shame. At least maybe people are a bit easier to track nowadays

than years ago?

I learned just a couple of years ago that my cousin is a cousin from a different aunt than originally thought.
