"There are only two worlds — your world, which is the real world, and other worlds, the fantasy. Worlds like this are worlds of the human imagination: their reality, or lack of reality, is not important. What is important is that they are there. These worlds provide an alternative. Provide an escape. Provide a threat. Provide a dream, and power; provide refuge, and pain. They give your world meaning. They do not exist; and thus they are all that matters."
— Neil Gaiman, The Books of Magic

Why would the stars run away to a place where they are least noticed?” She asked.
“It’s because no one bothers to look at the sky anymore.” I said, “Especially when it’s night. Except lonely people. They look at the sky when it’s morning and when it’s dark. They long to be touched, heard, and loved. The stars travel to where lonely people are to be their friend, their company.”
She looked at me and I almost felt like a sky. I kissed her lips and told her that everything will feel better in the morning. I wanted to kiss her as many times as the sky changed ever since the earth was created. I wanted to hold her, but I couldn’t, because even though our bodies were touching, it felt like she was million miles away.

Try to learn to breathe deeply, really to taste food when you eat, and when you sleep, really to sleep. Try as much as possible to be wholly alive with all your might, and when you laugh, laugh like hell. And when you get angry, get good and angry. Try to be alive. You will be dead soon enough … Ernest Hemmingway.

"Take two bare knees, two rolled stockings, two flapping goloshes, one short skirt, one lipstick, one powder puff, 33 cigarettes, and a boy friend with flask. Season with a pinch of salt and dash of pep, and cover all with some spicy sauce, and you have the old-time flapper."
— Unknown Connecticut woman, c. 1920s
