Yesterday was the day that I came off the wagon. I'm not a heavy drinker, moderate I think but a presenter on ABC radio decided he'd go on the wagon until Grandfinal day ....and I thought why not? although I lasted two weeks longer

So for a month and a half (except for one misunderstanding) I've been off the grog. And I can tell you it's a good thing to do.

Firstly you lose weight immediately

then your head isn't so fuzzy

you end up drinking good stuff that is healthy for you

you remember the ending of films lol

You go out more because you can drive

all up it's been a rather good experiment.

Last night I noticed it hit me a lot quicker than usual.

I feel rotten this morning

I woke up a lot later which has stuffed todays plans up.

I have to use my head today and I know it's not correctly fitted to my shoulders.

So what do you say peoples? To drink or not to drink?

Oh and BTW the presenter gave up for a bit because he realised that he'd gotten into a routine with drinking . Not getting Drunk as such, but he'd go home and have a couple of beers and maybe a wine whilst cooking dinner etc. He was more concerned about the habit rather than what the habit actually was. And he'd been unwittingly doing it for years.

I love a good beer, now and again, but I don't really like being drunk.

I think being drunk is a situational thing. i'ts like you decide you're going to drink with your buddies or mates ......because........well I'm not quite sure what the 'because' is .

but yes I agree Lars. A beer on a warm day on the front verandah after a bit of gardening is quite the life. :)

I do like a beer.. especially a Guinness :) but I don't like the drunk bit, so I don't ever go that far anymore.

And i tend not to drink in public (with work people) as I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut anyway, but i realy cannot keep it shut after 1 beer.

I tend to get very sarcastic, and believe me they do not do sarcastic in the netherlands.. I believe beer activates my "britishness", which is not appreciated over here.

I still haven't worked out Fuzzy whatsername, not sure if she's the female equivilent of a mans man, or if she is a new style female, or if all Aussie women are like that.

Did I say tha out loud ????

Anyway ...........I enjoy a drink, don't often get drunk drunk as in doing silly things and hangovers and suchlike. Just get over happy and talkative and cuddly.

ahhh the good ole' "I can't handle your whims whilst I'm sober, so now's a good time to tell you what I really think" scenario.

Huh. I do that if I drink wine, sarcasm for me goes hand in hand with wine as a good red goes well with fine upmarket steak.. Happy happy happy if I have a beer. And I stay away from Vodka, Port and mixed drinks. I don't drink guiness because it does weird things to my bowels.

I've never understood things like shots or cocktails. For me it's like "put it all in a big glass ....you don't have to get up to pour another so often" lol lol

I drink low carb beer these days. :) This is the sign that you are now an "old person" . lol

It's been a long while ago, but it was the hangover the next day that was rough. Yuch!

Years ago,I went to a party with my ex-husband and the host had given me a deliciously sweet but evidently potent mixed drink. My ex had to pick me up off the bathroom floor and carry me to the car and take me home. Afterwards, I was mortified. Everyone else laughed and brushed the incident off.

While we lived in Germany, there were quite a few parties with other military couples. They were fun.....but along with the laughter, the conversations,, the music, and the snacks....there was alot of liquor served. We were young and just had to finally realize...enough was enough. We still attended the parties, but paid attention to how much and what we drank. And the get-togethers were still fun.

Nowadays, Hubby and I drink "a cool one" once in while, at home.

I prefer smoking good pot to drinking but nowadays I'm not supposed to smoke for circulatory reasons, so I like Stella Artois more than I should. She likes me too.

Oh god Anne you can drink that stuff? I drank that whilst in England and not much of it but I was as sick as a dog. I think most European beers are a lot heavier on the tum than ours our. When I was in America I drank Budweiser and couldn't work out why it was such a popular drink . YUK!!! but I suppose it's like everyone thinks Fosters is a popular beer in Australia. I don't know one person who drinks that stuff....Might be why we ship it overseas. lol lol lol

I don't do Pot. I'm hypersensitive to it.

Used to smoke it a lot, but then I quit, tried it again and didn't like it one bit. Never smoked it again.. Still prefer that Guinness!

I love the taste of Stella. Reminds me of the beer I drank in Zurich. Drinking Budweiser is like drinking water mixed w/piss, not that I know what that tastes like. Bud Light isn't too terrible. The worst, cheapest beer I ever drank was Old Milwaukee, when I lived in Wisconsin. Yuk. I drink beer as it never makes me drunk or hungover. The worst thing I can say about it is that it is So Fattening. I'm not gaining, but I can't lose either, not while I have this Stella attraction.

I'd rather smoke good pot than anything else. Till last January I smoked for............over 40 years! Once a hippie.............however the prices on anything worthwhile are insane.

I wish I didn't like it. Going through life straight...........well, maybe it's about time I tried it. In Britain I liked Guinness. In Holland I drank, what else? Heineken. My husband liked a Canadian beer, Moosehead, but you can't get that in NYC. I liked that one, too.

Hihi, Heineken.. and most dutch seem to like "Amstel" / " grolsch" or "Hertog Jan", so many people i know here hate Heineken. I think it tasts much the same but amstel does funny things to my bowls, grolsch makes me go into a coma sleep, and hertog jan gives me headache.. Beer that is available here, i prefer Bavaria. But top of the list is Guinness.

I tried old speckled hen at the Irish pub here once, ended up in old speckled toilet.. never again...

If you take any over the counter medication with Loperamide Hcl before drinking beer you may find it works wonders on next day toilet problems.

Amstel is a popular beer here in the states, but especially Heineken.

Do you know the Belgian beer Leffe Blonde? Very strong stuff, too much for me, like drinking hard liquor, not beer. In the states, we are finally getting beers with higher alcohol content. Used to be restricted to like only 4% or less, I think. American beers are still pretty weak. Bud came out with Platinum, which contains about 6%, but I do not care for it. I don't like to be drunk, just happily buzzed & I cannot deal with hangovers. That's for the young folk.

I don;t like drunk either. But i do know leffe blonde. Not for me, just didn't like it. But on a schooltrip to belgium we went to a local brewery and them only made nostradamus beer.. I thought it was to die for. tasted a bit like Guinness, quite heavy beer 9%. Brewed since 2000 in Brasserie Caracole, Falmignoul.
