The UK doesn't get real hurricanes, I mean really really dangerous hurricanes.

If we stay indoors there is only an outside chance of tragedy striking............

So hurricanes are not the best measure of our stiff upper lippedness.

Our stoicism is shown under other situations.........such as terrorist threat, all we do is remove the refuse bins and carry on.

We make more of a big deal about everything here, because people always find ways to Sell Stuff, using the event to get ratings, sell Advertising, T-shirts, whatever.

I guess I don't presume that far... and only go by

what I know about my online friends. Yes, Oscar,

that means you! I'd put folding money on you

making it safely through whatever.

As for me, I tend to take things with a very large

grain of salt, especially weather reports. The

forecasters around here seem to do their darndest

to get people agitated about the next thing coming

down the pike!

When we live in Los Angeles, weather was not the big worry.

They sold t-shirts, not to me. All things considered just a lot of inconvenience, monetary loss. But then there was FEMA shelling out bucks left and right.

Earthquakes, not nearly the worry the of mid west weather.

I remember driving supplies to pick-up points, and the weather was wet and miserable. Can't see a lot of desire for the "I survived, , " t-shirts.

This poor city, being struck at least twice, I'd give odds, not much interest in another "I survived, , , " T-shirts.

Those are a few of the biggies, not to mention the scores/hundreds of smaller cyclones which roam the entire country every year, randomly reaping destruction to all in their path.

There are other weather dangers, way to many to list here.

LOL at that! Early in the news: "We'll be back in 15 minutes to tell you about the huge storm warning." Later in the news: "When will the rain start? We'll have more after this break." When the weather segment starts: "It looks like we'll miss the rain except for a few sprinkles in the North Bay up by Eureka" (Eureka is 300 miles north of "the bay"). The pattern repeats over and over again.

some of the people at work today still came by bicycle.. some of them live over 20km away! saw a bit on the news today of a schoolgirl who almost got blown away, her bike actually lifted.. but hey ho, no matter what the weather the dutch still find their way to work..

a tree almost crashed into our kitchen but then flew off the other way.. metal sheets came of the roof at work as well.. bit dangerous..
