I can't copy paste from my 'Word' file onto Forum Garden !

OK, I have found a 'joke thread' that I can post into instead of starting a new one, so I copied a joke from my collection in my 'Word' file. I pasted it into the thread and that was OK, but the minute I clicked to 'post' it on the thread I got the following notice in a line along the very top edge of a totally blank page ! (I have tried several times)

Error 500 (Internal Server Error)

Could somebody kindly explain what is happening and how I can overcome this problem. I have tried another forum but my posting has no problem - I even copied and pasted ! So it seems to be peculiar to Forum Garden !

Word uses a lot of internal coding to format the text. It can be invisible to the user, but is on the data is seen and reacted to by the forum editor

.

try pasting it into notepad, first.

Then copy the text from Notepad and paste THAT into the forum editor.

LarsMac, I did try it but it is still messing me about. I did the very same thing on another forum and that worked a treat !

It's something that happens when I press 'Submit reply' . The item transfers OK from Word, or even my email (I don't have 'notepad') onto 'Reply to Thread' , then I press 'Submit reply' and I then get a completely blank screen with Error 500 (Internal Server Error) appearing in the top left hand corner !

It would seem to be something to do with Forum Garden, as it works perfectly well on another forum. :-5:-5:-5

ForumGarden has a filter in place to prevent potentially damaging content from reaching the forum. The posts you are making into this thread are reaching the forum, the filter doesn't consider them potentially damaging. The thread you are attempting to make is being rejected because the filter does consider the content to be potentially damaging.

If you change what you're attempting to post it might pass the filter.

Sorry, I am a trifle confused here. You are saying that my C & P from wherever is being allowed to land in the 'Reply to Thread' box, and I wish to just 'submit to reply' to an existing thread - "Joke of the day" by Fuzzywuzzy 11-19-2013. Are you saying that the filter is rejecting Fuzzy's thread as being potentially damaging, or are you mistakenly thinking that I am trying to start a new thread, and that the filter is rejecting this attempt as potentially damaging ? I re-iterate that I just want to add a post to an existing thread.

Thanks for coming back to me though.

How about "The post you are attempting to make", then. Go back and see if it makes more sense with that.

If you change what you're attempting to post it might pass the filter.

Would that translate to 'try copying and pasting a different joke' ??

That might be one way, though I'd not want to be seen encouraging humour on the site.

There is a particular line in the mod_security configuration and reported at /usr/local/apache/logs/error_log that's rejecting superficially non-dangerous text:

[Mon Jan 20 12:15:33 2014] [error] [client x.x.x.x] ModSecurity: Access denied with code 500 (phase 2). [file /usr/local/apache/conf/modsec2.user.conf] [line 365] [id 300014] [rev 1] [msg Generic SQL injection protection] [severity CRITICAL] [hostname www.forumgarden.com] [uri /forums/newreply.php] [unique_id ChlggzIcGRwAADy2OQsAAAAX]

But I can't at the moment get permission to change it:

Error writing /usr/local/apache/conf/modsec2.user.conf: Permission denied

I'll go through the assorted passwords I hold and try to see whether I can comment it out.

So you'd rather be seen as an old curmudgeon ? Oh sometimes I wish you would lighten up Mr. FG. All I want to do is cause a couple of smiles and where's the harm in that ? Oh, and by the way, Ms Boop the joke I wanted to add is perfectly decent so I see no reason to change it for another, unless I just cannot get it posted ! I suppose I could resort to typing it out straight onto the thread !!!! Good job I'm a touch typist !

Yes I will accept your apology, Mr. FG for typing the wrong word (thread instead of post) and causing this poor old brain of mine such confusion. Thanks for the help and the explanation.

I'm sure it was decent lol that wasn't my point. If you try copy and pasting another bit of text, any piece of text it will pinpoint whether it's just a problem with the text of the original joke you were trying. That's all I was thinking.

You could of course email happy ole Tyr the joke and get him to start his own joke thread and see if he can get it to copy and paste :wah:

I've been worrying about this. I have a horrid suspicion you think it's pronounced the way it seems to be spelled, instead of "The".
