Like young Master Edward Garratt aka “The Little Stranger” aka “The Little Cross Dresser”; a skeleton holding a French horn & petting a black cat (the rest of this WTF image I leave entirely to your imagination): a very unsociable dude with a girl on his lap and either a witch in shades or a corpse next to them (might even be a post mortem photo); a young dude saying: “Into zee cage my lovely one ... zee parakeet she is hongree!”: a cyclist dude who has done the last ten Tours de France and forgotten to eat: and what could be a giant mole, a deformed elephant or perhaps an armadillo!

Interesting stuff you find.

many of the other picks demonstrate that photographers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century had begun to "play" with their media a lot.

Staging scenes, and posing the subjects. Early photography was seen as a medium for capturing places and events. or for portraits. But by the latter Victorian Era photographers saw the potential for the artistic. They also began to experiment with "editing photographs" putting thing in the picture that had not been in front of the lens, or removing things that they didn't want in the picture, or merging two images into one print.
