One of the most irritating things to me is to see somebody chewing gum with their mouth open ! I don't mind folk chewing gum, if they must, but wish some of them would keep their mouths closed whilst they're doin' the chewin' :wah:

Seeing folks chewing anything with their mouth open irritates me. I really DON't want to see what you're eating, after you've taken the bite.

It varies, but today it was drivers. I don't really care who gets to the next traffic light first. Why do they always seem to drive faster when they are behind me than when they are in front? There must be some secret competition I don't know (or care) about.

It bugs me when people crack their knuckles ...over ... and over. Thankfully it's not something I encounter very often but when I do ... :-5

Grocery carts! I hate the way people just unload their cart and then leave it sitting in the parking lot. It's a real pet peeve of mine. I have taken carts I've found sitting in the parking lot and put them up myself. People don't realize the damage they can do. I was sitting in my car one day and here comes this cart rolling by in front of me and off down the hill. :-5

Cyclists going through traffic lights when they are at red.

Cyclists riding on the road when there is a specially made cycle path just beside them.

People who "snort" and spit all the time.

Make me feel absolutely sick!

Where I live, the Russians outnumber everyone. Even in professional offices which serve everyone, the Russians (especially the old ones) are so catered to that they get mad if you speak English & if there is a TV in the waiting room it is always on a Russian variety show channel, & their entertainment sucks. Sometimes I want to scream. Which is odd as my favorite Grandma was Russian & her friends were but they actually wanted to speak in English, & wanted their professionals to do so too.

I get such a headache in this neighborhood sometimes.

Anne I can't imagine what it must be like. I always thought that the saying "When in Rome ............." and it is only courtesy (and common sense) to at least try to speak the language of the country where you are living, surely. :rolleyes: Yes that would irritate me quite a lot too !

It is a new experience. Cadres of new immigrants, particularly the older bunch, rarely leave their own circles & if they work, they work in a small business run by a relative.

When my Grandma arrived in 1905, she vowed Never to speak Russian again (she was angry they tried to kill her!) & Immediately enrolled in an English class at a settlement house. Also, the next generation, those born here, wanted to be American. My mother would say to my grandmother, if she spoke in Yiddish, "Ma, speak United States!"

They're not learning because there's not enough societal pressure on them to learn. It's a very complicated story, Gill, lots of politics & economics involved.

My irritant, today.

We had about half to three quarters of a foot of snow overnight, here.

I got out to dig my way out of the snow. I no sooner finished getting the driveway open and cars cleaned off that the snowplow rolls by throwing a whole new pile of show onto my car and blocked up the driveway.

Today it has been raining. I drove and saw many drivers without their lights on. In my state, when you have to use your wind-shield wiper, you turn on your headlights.

Part of my job involves answering the phone: People who speak American, but talk too fast, or slur their words, or mumble, or call in sick but do not give you their names until you ask them. Lack of phone etiquette.
