Today we had to say Good bye to our backyard tree that was taking over the yard! It had grown to 60 feet high, and about 45 feet in diameter, & nearly hitting the house. It was sad watching the (4) Tree removal men dismembering it limb by limb. My Wife & I had planted the now monster tree 28 years ago when it was only a twig, and our Daughters were only todlers.

It sought of shows one how "time" marches on, "nothing" stays the same forever. :wah:

It just re-opens the "empty-nest" syndrome again, our Daughters grew up in our house and even played on/around that tree! They are grown Women now, they got married and moved away, starting families of their own. (As it should be)

It may sound silly, but the removal of the tree today reminded us that we have an Empty nest! :wah:

(Maybe because of the "empty" space where the tree used to live :-1 )

I'm so sorry to hear that! I just love trees of all kinds, and have planted

a few myself. Haven't had to take any out yet, though!



Be nice to each other, it's a big thing to have to do that after all that

time.

"28" years ago we never dreamed how "Big" that little twig would become.

So not thinking we put it too close to the house, and now when the wind blew hard sometimes it would knock against house. (That problem is now gone!) :wah:

So some friendly advise. When anyone plants a tree, plan it out, try to imagine how big the tree would be in 30 years. So it will not come to what we just had to do!)

How sad you must have both felt, watching your tree go.

Maybe you should both plant a new tree (a little further away next time maybe)

We did, they are now called "Grandchildren"!!

(Oh yeah back to the tree, it won't be the same, but that's a good idea. Thanks)

Now thinking about it, you're absolutely right! That tree was a mullberry tree, and it had the biggest leaves that I ever saw on a tree. And in the Autum when those leaves fell from the tree, they took about 5 hours to rake up. Then they had to be carted up a very, very steep hill to compost heap! :guitarist

Perhaps you could hold some sort of memorial service, using a song like (sorry in advance about this!), "Tree`s a jolly good fellow, tree`s a jolly good fellow!" ?!

No empty nest - just new beginnings. Plant a new tree - for your grandchildren - embrace the changes in your life and be happy you don't have go through raising teens again. :-5 :yh_rotfl

We used to have two great big Cottonwood trees at our old house that were what seemed like 100 feet tall. And in the fall when those damn things started to shed their leaves.....it pissed me off so much. I feel your pain about the hours of manual labor to clean it all up.....

The Tree surgons sprayed the tree with anisteisia before they operated, so the Tree didn't feel a thing! :wah:

We took 2 branch limbs from that tree and re-planted up on our backyard "Hill", far from anything, and everything. So it will never have to be cut down & or moved again!!!

OMG - when they cut down my 70+ year Mulberry - they told me it was infested and sick and dead. I did not get to have the tree euthanized. I planted a new trees.

When we bought this house, we inherited 4 trees planted way too close to the house, that really need cut down. I look at them and wonder why people want trees. :wah:

Yes but if I was raising teens again, it would mean that I was "young" again! Don't know what's worse, getting old, or raising teens again. I know, raising teens makes you old before your time! :wah: Can't win!!

Correction, really not so sure any more that the trees didn't feel a thing !

Today' while I was raking out the choped up dirt/wood chips where the trees used to be, I saw that the trees burried roots that were cut off "blead" under the soil and came up to a puddle on the surface. :wah: Scary!!! :-3

Did plant new tree, as well as "2" branches of the Old tree!

i woke up one morning to the sound of a chainsaw, i looked out & the most beautiful tree in the world (the one outside my house) was being tortured

i think it would be fair to say i was hysterical & demanded a halt to the proceedings

the two arboculturists doing it explained that my next door neighbour had complained to the council & as its on council land they had to cut it back

then i was outraged as my next door neighbour had moved the week before & dident even mention it, also when was i consulted about how i felt?

so the result is a massive trunk & two branches sticking out the top, i could just cry everytime i see it

it used to be that i could sit in the lounge, look out the window which was a mass of blossom from overhanging branches that in my opinion contributed to its beauty, to now a trunk

i havent felt the same about this house since

trees have a big effect on people
