I'm not sure. There's something about this that just doesn't sit well with me.

What doesn't sit well with me is the admission cost--$24.00. We had been told it would be free & it could be if the Feds would kick in. It's not macabre to the area, oscar, as you can't find anyone here who doesn't know a victim, survivor, or member of family. Everyone knows someone who has suffered or lost.

Only maybe the Flat Earth Society believe that 9/11 didn't happen or that the US Government/CIA were responsible for it.

If like me you have no doubt about what happened, the facts speak for themselves.

Of the 2,977 people killed, 441 were emergency workers in New York City who responded to the World Trade Center. This included:

341 firefighters and 2 paramedics from the New York City Fire Department.

37 police officers from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey Police Department.

23 police officers from the New York City Police Department and 8 emergency medical technicians and paramedics from private emergency medical services.

Amongst other things, the Museum rightly honours the memory of these brave men and women.

If nothing else, spare a thought for their families.

I am all In favour of 9/11 being Immortalised but I found the slipper macabre. I understand the sentiment behind It. ie The loss of life but I found that crass. What next ? The blood soaked shirt of a dead Australian from the Bali bombings? A shoe from a dead passenger on the London Tube bombings. ?

Would that be so out of place? Would it be wrong to show, especially the young people that bombs maim & kill?

Perhaps in the UK. Let me rephrase that. Perhaps those who are not Muslim extremists in the UK. But across the globe in Muslim countries, the young people think? differently I believe. Infidels are fair game.

I have no idea of the figures, but, I would wager the death toll ,Muslim (militants and moderates) and Infidels is vastly weighted toward the Muslims.......................and one wonders why militants are being created daily.

No denying it, we would make such a memorial with greater subtlety.

I see your point but seriously, do you think any child born Into the Jihad Is going to give a toss about seeing a battered fire engine or a victim's slipper In America?

What's crass is the murder of all those people.

Just thinking about 9-11 just pisses me off all over again.

It was an ugly Gawd awful attack against innocent people, and their nation. Not enough can be displayed to show just who the victims were.

Neighbors, friends , family or ourselves.

Displays should contain the personal items of the murdered so to remind us they were real people, not pictures or stats.

I take it personal that the attack was against America. I won't apologize that my first thoughts go to my countrymen.

All of us are still under the threat of such horrific slaughter.

The U.S. does our fair share of slaughter too TD. Unlike you, & I & loved ones live right here in Bomb Central, I don't feel under threat. We keep our eyes & ears open, constantly reminded to do so. & the police have done a fine job of anti-terrorism. Funny how the places least likely to be under attack, like where you live, are the places that generate the most fear. I'd say that's rather interesting. Also, unless we are under attack, many people in places like yours don't care for NYC (or Boston) very much, bastions of liberalism that we are & continue to be. Yep, I'd say that's rather interesting.

After the second attack on the WTC I am glad somebody is taking threats seriously.

That doesn't mean that an attack against ya all is any less a reason for me to me be outraged and taking personal affront.

You forget that the airplanes use in the attack were not strictly filled with east coasters. Those murdered in the Pentagon aren't all from your shtetle.

What I find interesting is you chose to use this subject to divide. Typical of liberal theology.

I've been to Ground Zero a few years ago when my brother and I did Christmas shopping over there. We both found that extremely powerful yet serene. We stood for ages just In silence and after we chatted to so many people. We didn't need victims slippers or battered fire engines, we got It without them. But there was a dignified serenity, and still managed to bring tears to the eyes.... just saying

Wow, that's a huge cost.

Oscar you do have your fair share of 'London bombing' museums and displays.

Just thinking if people will begin erecting "museums" around the world to honour their victims of atrocities. There'd be a few.

As It happens, I am actually coming around to liking the Idea of the 9/11 museum. I have always said from that day, I believe It was an act of war. It was actually, the one defining moment that changed the world and the war on terror.

We also have a Holocaust Jewish Museum here. Yes, In hindsight, defining moments In history should be preserved.

As long as they don't do the theatrics of the Churchill museum or the York dungeon museum. Walking through a street during the blitz or being sneezed on by a manican then realising you're entering the black death area of the museum
