Oh it's a total looney bin. But they do have some nice roads, and some new power plants and water systems. I said we fix up their infrastructure...not their self-destructive, psychotic society. As far as I can tell, Arabic people love being at war. (See: the Persian Empire)

I mean that the Middle Eastern part of the European continent has been at war since the dawn of time. Afghanistan's a good example.

No, we've destroyed their society and left a power vacuum that will ensure that all of the new infrastructure will be destroyed before the situation settles down with a worst set of b'tards in charge that there were when this all started.

Actually. After my statement that that section of the world has always been at war. I did some research. The two major reasons for that are, in order of impact:

1. Oil.

2. Multiple tribal societies that individuals cling to instead of unified government. The tribes promise advantages at the expense of other tribes within the same country. (Sunni-Shiite, etc.)

I mean, I don't doubt it lies at the heart of it but ...... didn't "the west" create these little oil principalities like Bahrain, Oman, Kuwait, etc. (corrupting and bribing Armani-suited, Rolls-Royce worshiping Princes) so that they could controll the oil fields and sip mint julip in the noon-day sun? I haven't actually done any research but maybe you know something about it. If so, one might argue that the "oil wars" are either orchestrated or caused by outsiders, not really the Arabs.

The rest of europe hasn't exactly been a peaceful region either, our generation is one of tne very few that has not been involved in warfare. When it comes to making war we are actually one of the most aggressive peoples on the planet.

Indeed. The Middle East is well on its way to democratic restoration alright. Nary a corner of it untouched.

Our own transition to universal suffrage, parliamentary democracy etc etc was hardly a peaceful one. The key was the enlightenment and the growth of secularism, religious societies cannot by their very nature be tolerant and allow people to love in peace. It doesn't need to be state sponsored religion all it takes is for imams, rabbis, priests call them what you wll to be able to get enough people to do their bidding and freedom and justice for all goes out the window.

There's one thing saying you're proud and confident. But deep down, many Scots are too dependent on the link to London. They depend on it.



It's weakening and hopefully they will stand up and be counted as a free nation...
