I'd like to know why it is that Prince Harry got done for wearing a Nazi uniform to a fancy dress party but actors can wear them all day long, months at a time, while shooting a film about WW II and no one says a word of criticism?

It was for a Halloween Party, wasn't it? Given that, I don't think it was inappropriate, but maybe a Royal should think first before wearing it. For a Regular People Halloween Party, I'd say it fit the bill---Scary & Repulsive, fine for this Happy Holiday!

I agree with you. When you think of all the nasty people in history, like Stalin, Idi Amin, Gingis Khan, Jack the Ripper, Vlad the Impaler, the Grim Reaper, Icabob Crane, and even Berlusconi, Geo. W. and the tax collector - who's to say what is proper and what isn't at a Holloween party? The object is to be scary, right?

And why should movie stars be treated with kid gloves? Screw them!

Well, if you're making a movie about the Nazis, it probably won't carry the weight it should if all the actors are dressed in swimsuits, or Clown suits.

Dressing them in character kinda helps set the tone, I think.

I know, but ... Prince Harry on one hand .... Richard Burton on the other. Entertainers for the moment, the both of them. If one should get the chop so should the other. It's not good to have it both ways.

It's all about perception. We percieve that the actors are in a movie that will show the Nazis as the evil people they were. Wearing that uniform to a party, on the other hand gives the impression that you either admire them or deny their evil, especially if you are a Royal and everything you do is seen as a message.

Good Perception vs. Bad Perception. Good connotation vs. bad connotation. As an officer, I once had to deal with a problem in the Air Force that I didn't see was a problem at all. I went to my commander for advice and what he told me I never forgot, "A perceived problem is a real problem. You have to deal with it."

From the start I thought it was nothing more than tacky tabloid hype. He was a teenager (or at most, early 20s) having fun at a private Fancy Dress party. If he had gone dressed as Dracula they would probably have accused him of being a closet vampire or a Satanist. Anyone who gives credence to the claims that he is actually a Nazi have very judgmental and / or even more gullible minds.

The current generation of the House of Windsor are probably the most down to earth & public friendly than any of their ancestors for 100s of years. If nothing else, Diana's death forced them to open their eyes to the need for the Royal Family to be more in tune with its subjects.

Needless to say, I am, and always have been a devout Royalist.

Besides, politics aside, regardless of who's wearing it, you have to admit that the Nazi uniform was a very smart design.

As I understand it, Hugo Boss designed and produced them, Henry Ford stood for financing them ... donating them, I think.
