What a joy the forms are... not!

My son was on DLA, they sent me a huge form to fill in and return due to him turning 16 and becoming an adult and the fact that he has to change to Personal Independence Payments! What a joke!

I sent one form in, then had post sent to me requesting details of the bank the money should be paid into. It was all on the original form but no they want another signature from my son to be sure he's happy it's being paid to a name other than his.

I spoke on the phone, they told me they couldn't speak with me they had to speak to the person on the form. I laughed and said fine but he's got Autism and isn't very good at this, he will panic and won't know the answers to your questions because although he's now considered an adult in your eyes he isn't in reality. So he tried to answer her questions, he had to ask me the answer to every single one of them it was a farce :wah:

Yesterday I received another huge form to fill in.

Today I received yet another huge form to fill in.

Is this some sort of odd method to stop people bothering because you have to repeat all your answers three times over in every form.

Nothings changed when he hit sixteen, he didn't miraculously recover from his Autism or his Dyspraxia :wah:

Gives you the Pip does it ?

Is there not a declaration somewhere on these forms or another form that gives you or any suitable other person the power to act on your son's behalf ?

It may well be worth your while enquiring.

It's an ironic gets on my PIP, it's quite a bizarre way to work and bizarre to have someone on the end of the phone that doesn't care this is really a child we are talking about, the rules are the rules :wah:

Yes it seems that was the case when it was DLA, that's what I used to do and that's what I did on the first form for PIP. But because he's now an adult he has to do it apparently. I actually need to become his 'appointed person' which requires someone coming to visit us, the appointment could take weeks but once done it puts me in charge.

That's all fine, but why on earth is this happening to a disabled child at sixteen, for most other things you are not considered an adult until eighteen!

Get "Appointed" as soon as you can.....sorted.
