I've just been approached by somebody who knows that I post in Forum Garden from time to time. Although they used to be a member here, they very rarely visit FG. now.

They have asked me to post about another site that wants to increase the number of members who enjoy debating and discussing any subject. You wouldn't have to forsake your membership on here, just pop in to this other site from time to time and enjoy debating etc. with other like-minded posters ! The site link is Board For Us

Maybe some of you may have heard of it already. I know you would be made very welcome by existing members on that site, and quickly accepted as a friend. Give it a try, you don't have to totally commit yourself and you can come and go as you wish, of course.

So, on one hand, you're saying that this member very rarely visits Forum Garden now but on the other hand, they'd like us to join their new forum?

How does that work exactly?

I'm making an assumption here but I am guessing that this old member rarely visits FG because they find It lacking Interest or the topics not to their taste or because FG has been a little slow of late.

If It's the latter, then surely, taking members from here, would In turn make FG even slower and less Interesting.

On the other hand, If they find the topics and members on FG of value to the forum world, then why don't they continue posting here with our members as well as their own forum?

Are you poaching Mrs? Because If so, we'll slap your bare buttocks with an oily birch twig. :wah:

It is such a pity you didn't read my post properly Oscar  Perhaps you'd better go and have another try at reading it. You always seem to get hold of the wrong end of the stick and read the worst interpretation of things, Mrs ! Oh, and if you must know, that particular person doesn't want to visit this site because of the way it went three or so years ago when several of us were hounded off by insults, belittling and bullying. I'm pleased to see that that section of the membership appears to have gone elsewhere now !

Au contraire Madam. I read your OP perfectly correctly.

Sorry but you've now totally contradicted yourself.

If you are Indeed pleased to see that the section of the membership appears to have gone elsewhere now and that this ex member doesn't want to visit the site because of the way It went three years ago, then why would they want our members to join their new forum?

It's contradictory. If FG Is now a green and pleasent land with the bullys having gone elsewhere and no sign of that kind of behaviour In the last three years, then there's absolutely no reason for that ex member to start posting here again Is there?

Or are you saying that the ex member won't risk coming here again In case FG goes the same way It went three years ago?

If that's the case, why target this forum?

Many of us here over the years are still In touch with old members, mostly on Facebook. We all still talk to each other. So, there's every possibility that word of this new forum will be passed on by members who are still In touch with the bully's as you put It, and you run the risk of those ' bullies' joining the new forum at any time In the future and disrupting the forum. That's always the risk of posting news of new forums and sorry, but I believe you should have done It by private message personally and kept It off the board.

What you have In effect done, Is lay this new forum wide open to any guest looking In who may be friend or foe. Many ex members, even those banned still log on as guests and all of them now have the link Including the one's you regard as the bullies.

You know, all I wanted to do was to point out that there was another site which had debate/discussion threads on it, like FG ! Nobody is asking members here to leave Forum Garden !!!!! For pity's sake, it seems to me that Oscar's "raison d'etre " is to confuse herself so much that any reply from her is very muddled and just causes conflict ! I'll leave you all to it. I've done what I said I would do for my friend.

She's made a fine point in that anyone can read threads by going in cold from google without logging in and that means any former members who you classify as undesirable. I have to agree with her in that you have left your new forum wide open for trolls as anyone can see the link you've posted. It's constructive criticism to point out that you should have done this through private message and not an attack on you. I'd say that is far removed from confused and more thinking things through objectively.

HI everyone :) Im sorry to cause such trouble here,, the person Gill is referring to is me :D

Gill sorry I caused you this trouble with our conversation, i do apologise.

I was talking to Gill about another forum I am now admin on ( not TPV Oscar) and as I knew she still popped in here from time to time asked her to pass on the link or mention it to see if anyone was interested. The political section there can get quite busy but has died down a bit and i knew some here liked the political side of forums. Its a bit like here actually, diverse and people from all over. I didnt mean for to take membership away from here at all, ( to be honest i think all here have been here long enough to stay loyal anyway) but just somewhere else for a change sometimes maybe.

Anyway I asked Gill to mention if she had the chance because ,, as she said i never really post here anymore and i did'nt want to come here and just spam.. but i spose i just did :yh_rotfl hey ho never mind, im sure it will give you all summat to talk about for a bit.

Take care :)

I don't know whether I will consider this new forum....I took a look at a large active forum that was suggested to me previously, but there were things about it that made me reluctant to join in. There are too many forums these days, and most of them look like they are just there to get ad-clicks, and it's almost impossible now to find a forum where you can drift from issue to different issues when you get tired of talking about politics or religion or the environment or other issues.

This forum has changed, and I notice every time an old thread is revived, and I look at page one and start wondering 'where did they all go?'

Since I came back, I am likely checking in here mostly out of apathy and reluctance to go elsewhere, than anything else. Over the last couple of years, I haven't been happy with what I've seen in the forums that I signed up with. I would give up on forums entirely, if it wasn't for the fact that I have a lot of interests that nobody I know personally seems to find of interest or is interested in learning about.

That's really weird because I did wonder If It was you.

First of all Kaz, why not post here more now and then If It's for the better these days as Gill says? It'd be really good to see you as you were and are a valued member.

Sorry but I still believe the method used could open you up to anything and I wouldn't want that for you of all people.

I wish you every success with the new forum. I doubt I'll be able to join simply due to time restraints... But good luck Kaz and all the very best to you :-4

Just in case you really didn't know what Soldiers are, in this instance (I can't always tell if something is meant to be sarcastic or not), they're a standard round of toast sliced into fish finger (fish sticks) sized pieces, making them the right size for dunking in your boiled egg.

Back on topic, though, personally I prefer a forum with a smaller membership. This enables you to get to know everyone's individual style & character, good & bad. In the bigger ones it's less than being a face in a crowd.

The last forum I was with used to be fine - about the same membership as here & very friendly. Then the Administration was handed over to someone else & things started to go downhill. It quickly became run by the Admin's sidekick, who pulled all the strings & once I got on her bad side by disagreeing with a couple of her posts, I ended up getting banned. I think most of you on here have, by now, got used to my style of posting & although I will always openly speak my mind, it's always courteously, with respect for others to have their opinions. To be honest, I don't even know who the admins are, which as I see it is a good thing. It shows that they're not dominating everything but, on the whole, letting everyone else keep things in order for themselves. Of course, once in a while opinions are so different that discussions can become fairly heated, but that that is the nature of a debating forum - not one where you are told what to think & say.

Just because someone uses one forum doesn't mean they desert another.
