I am really not looking forward to venturing out this morning. Not in THIS weather.

It's pelting down & blowing a gale. Certainly not the weather for taking the poor little Beasty out for a 7 mile run.

I've got my waterproof overtrousers, which is a great relief, but buggered if I can find the matching jacket that goes with them. Until now my standard Hi-Vis coat has been plenty waterproof for the purpose. That is, until Tuesday, when it was peeing down & I arrived at the office absolutely drenched through - and that was nowhere near as severe weather as it is right now.

I have now gone & ordered myself another, better quality oversuit. The one I've got is, in fairness, pretty good quality, but it's not really much more than a thin, nylon reinforced plastic bag, which only cost me a fiver off eBay. This time I'm really lashing out. £20 for an Ultra Hi-Vis Orange one with Reflective Strips.

I've also made a point of putting my office address & phone number (yes, I have my very own office phone now - well, sort of. Until they get the cables wired in it's a temporary cordless one - plus still working from, Laptop on Wi-Fi - office still not wired for BroadBand) down for delivery & contact details, as (unless it arrives on a Saturday - which Sod's Law probably guarantees that it will do) that way I'll be there to take delivery.

Ah - it seems that since I started this post the weather has totally subsided - although that's probably just the eye of the storm.

At least this morning it won't be the other condition I hate - riding East into the sun on a wet road. Then on the return journey, at the end of the day, exactly the same thing, but heading West.

Being on the early shift yesterday (08:00 - 16:00) I was packing up, ready to go, and as I looked out of the window, the weather was glorous (as seen by the photo I took of it in the "Pictures Taken By You" thread), so as it was also still daylight the hi-vis waterproof moon suit wasn't going to be needed, so off I sped.

About half an hour later I arrived safely at home, beating most of the rush hour traffic. Then, just as I was locking Da Beasty up it started spitting slightly. No problem - I was home for the weekend, just in time. I then put hte bike keys in my posket & went to get the keys to the building / flat, only to realise I'd left them in the drawer at the office (the drawers are meant to be kept locked when there's anything valuable in them, and I'd handed back my Laptop, so although I didn't need to lock it, the keys were still in the lock from where I had unlocked it earlier in the morning, so there was nothing for it but to make a return journey. Five minutes into the journey the gentle spitting had turned into a full fledged monsoon & of course, once having started a journey, stopping to put the waterproofs on isn't really practical. Anyway, when I arrived back at the office I was drenched!! I got my keys, donned the Moon Suit - not that that keeping me dry was an issue any more, but it gets me seen in what was, by now, extremely limited visibility.

By now, the weather had subsided again & had stopped raining, but the roads were treacherous, being covered with a film of surface water, floating on top of which was the usual road oils. Then there was all the other traffic with headlights (and fog lights, despite the never being any fog - why, og why do people DO that? It's totally illegal. It's almost as bad as going Full Beam all the time) so, once again, with the wetness of the road, the effects were greatly magnified, eventually taking me about an hour to get home the 2nd time round.

So much for the advantages of the early shift.

I have now decided to keep a spare key to the building / flat with the bike keys as well, in case of a repeat occurence.

When I left for work yesterday, being on the Late Shift (starting at 10:00, hence leaving at 09:00) the Sun was fully up & a nice clear day, so my standard hi-vis coat was plenty enough. This morning, however, as I look out of my window, it's a totally different matter. It is PEEING down, which is also making it rather dark!!

This is definitely going to be a day where the bright orange Moonsuit comes into its own.

It's odd that despite being completely protected from the wet by the Moonsuit & the Full Face lid, how it should still feel as if you're fully exposed to all the elements.

Who knows. Maybe it'll stop in the next 45 mins.

I was right. Despite the waterproof moonsuit, I was still soaked through by the time I got to work.

I think it's clear now. It's been fine most of the day (after I arrived, of course). The problem is that it's too dark to see what it's like now. At least I'll be going home a little early tonight, as the managers have decided to bugger of half hour early, & H&S rules say that no staff member may be left alone in the office. Therefore I'm going to have to leave at the same time as them. - Oh, what an inconvenience - and on a choir night as well.
