The title of my 4 year old granddaughter's school reading book. To my horror one of the pages is Nan's nits! Hope that isn't an omen. After we had gone through it this evening, Daisy said, now I'll go through it again and show you how to read it properly! And she did! :wah:

Thank god that now my daughter is at secondary nits are no longer a constant battle!

Bring back the nit nurse for sure and make every child stay out of school until they are clear!

Interesting topic. I don't approve. Sounds like deliberate book choices within schools nowadays to get messages back to parents through the children! I wonder who thought that up - that doesn't mean I am implying your daughter has any visitors :wah: I just think it's another half baked idea to try and stop the nit epidemic when what is really needed is a nit nurse telling a parent their child has nits and to deal with it. In my experience it was a particular friend that kept giving them to my daughter, any hints dropped into conversation were ignored. That sort of person just needs to be TOLD in my opinion.

My initial reaction was that it was intended to "normalise" having nits and to reassure children and parents that it need not carry a stigma. It was a bit of a shock to me because I was a 1950s child and nits were rare. Neither of my children (47 and 36) was ever affected but my eldest granddaughter (25) was, on a couple of occasions. My conclusion is that nit nurses clearly played a valuable part.
