hello no funny introductions tonight just ..well this must be one of the worst things i have ever wrote about on the column.

three stories that will shock and anger you though only one ends in tragedy.

It is believed the baby's mother hoped to hide the pregnancy - but other students heard the infant's cries and alerted firemen

Police believe that the young woman had hoped to hide the pregnancy but because the toilet had no water filled U-bend, and because the pipe was only twenty centimetres wide, the baby girl's body had become wedged a short way down, where her cries alerted other students who then raised the alarm.

Firemen who rushed to the student dormitory in the city of Linyi in eastern China's Shandong Province were amazed to find the child wedged in the pipe and clearly still alive from the noise she was making, and realised it was a race against time to free her.

Fire Brigade spokesman Tao Fang said: "It was impossible to get the baby out from above.

"She had fallen into the toilet and gone down the pipes were she had got stuck between the third and fourth floors.

"We used an angle grinder to break open the pipeline on the third floor and we could then push the child up to colleagues on the fourth floor where she was handed to medics who were waiting to take her to hospital."

Police meanwhile managed to track down the child's mother who was a student living in the building and who was also taken to hospital.

Police say they are waiting to question her before deciding what she might be charged with.

The shocking story caused heated debate on Chinese social media sites with many lamenting lack of decent values among the country's youth and shock at the way she had simply abandoned the baby in the toilet.

One user on China's popular social media site Weibo, WangLo34, said: "I find the image of a young woman giving birth in the toilet, cleaning herself up and then going back to her room to carry on studying a particularly worrying one and a sign of the sort of throwaway society that we live in now days.".

A newborn baby survived for five days after being dumped in a storm drain in Australia.

The seven-day-old boy little boy was found abandoned at the bottom of the 9ft deep pipe, which was covered with a 440lb concrete slab still wrapped in a hospital blanket.

It took six men, including three police officers, to lift the slab and rescue the tot.

Temperatures in the area have been over 100 degrees farenheit.

David Otte was cycling along the road with his 18-year-old daughter Hayley when they heard a strange noise coming from the drain in New South Wales.

He said: “We actually thought it was a kitten at first, but when we went down there we could hear exactly what it was, you could definitely tell it was a baby screaming.

New South Wales Senior Constable Mark McAlister was among the first on the scene He said: “It was a bit surreal actually.

“How could someone do it? I, myself, have kids and we’re expecting a baby in a few more months so it’s not good that someone’s going through this and has done this to a little one.

Police believe the boy had been pushed through a small opening to the drain and were concerned he may have suffered internal injuries from the fall.

The child is now in Westmead Children’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

David Otte and his daughter Hayley, as well as her mum Michelle, dropped off three sets of baby clothes, a new baby blanket and a face washer and towel.

“We wanted to see him, but the hospital said we weren’t able to at the moment, he said.

“We’d all really love a chance to see him again. Today has been such an emotional experience for everyone.

Mrs Otte said the family was moved to give the little boy the gifts because “he really doesn’t have anything.

“We have family, we have each other. He didn’t have anything, she added.

Prosecutors say Alexandra Olaru, 17, from Silvilesti in south-western Romania’s Gorj County, had given birth at home while her parents were out for the night.

Almost immediately after, she smothered the tot’s face with a pillow until it was dead before throwing its tiny corpse into a wood-burning stove and setting it alight.

She was arrested after telling horrified school friends what she had done.

Pal Iona Bibesco, also 17, said: "No one knew she was pregnant, she didn’t look it and she didn’t tell anyone.

"We only found out when she came to school the next day and told us what had happened.

"At first we thought she was making up some sick sort of joke, but as she went into more detail we began to realise it was probably true."

Her friends told a school teacher who then contacted the police.

Prosecutor spokesman Emil Mota said: "When questioned by police the young woman admitted everything she had done and gave all the details.

"Immediately after she gave birth she killed the newborn and set it on fire.

"She said she was afraid her parents would find out she was pregnant and be angry."

Her dumbfounded father, local councillor Marcel Olaru, told local media: "I just found out about this when the police arrived at our home.

"We knew she had been in a relationship and had actually got married.

"But that finished and she came back to live with us.

"But we had absolutely no idea she was pregnant nor that she had gone to such terrible measures to keep it from us," he said.

Prosecutors say the girl is currently undergoing psychological and psychiatric tests.

If found sane, she will be charged with murder and faces a life sentence.

what kind of society have we brought up where theres just no morals anymore a throw away society where a babies life means nothing.

at least two of these beautifull babies have survived their ordeals and all three mothers will face the consequences of their actions which i personally hope will be severe.

What should happen when a woman gives birth, Is a maternal Instinct kick In so strong that she'd field a pack of lions from her baby. Yet, for some women, that just doesn't happen. It's actually not their fault.

Although abandoning a new born baby to die Is not what most rational women would do, babies abandoned like this are usually, In the main, very young mothers, mostly young teens. They may have kept the pregnancy secret from parents and when the baby Is born they just go In a panic. If that Is the case, It's a knee jerk reaction to the reality that a baby has arrived that they have no way of caring for and providing for.

It's not evil... It's usually lack of understanding.

Or the terror of living in a society where single mothers are condemned and face social sanctions like being chucked out the house and their children ostracised and condemned as being bastards and of little worth. It's the same kind of condemnatiory attitude that's behind the rochdale scandal the victims simply were not seen as worth bothering about.

What makes it worse (well in some ways - damned in life damned for eternity) is those who did it would have believed the childrens souls would not get in to heaven.

Those who think the human rights act is a nonsense should be grateful they live in a liberal society and not a religiouis one you can keep your family values.

thats a very left wing liberal comment oscar ..in the majority of countries there is a support framework to help young mothers with things like this

and they must be encouraged to use them.

as for lack of understanding i personally think thats total Horlicks what kind of person can dispose of a living breathing defensless baby in such a dispicable manner at least abandon the child at a hospital or somewhere safe where the child is likely to be found im afraid i dont believe in the liberal handwringing bleating well she,s misunderstood its no less than attempted murder and the mother should feel the full force of justice for doing so.

I'm not at all maternal. I find nothing at all cute about a baby covered In food, screaming It's head off, yet I've stood In front on a line of horses with a gun pointed at us to stop the bastards digging a Fox out of It's earth before.

The acts you highlighted are not premeditated murder. They are knee jerk reactions to hide the baby. That Is panic. Yes, they could leave the baby at a hospital but women who have just given birth especially If they are very young, have hormones racing around and don't think straight. It's blind panic.

Yes, there Is a support framework In most countries but the girls could come from deeply religious families or very strict parents and they are too frightened to admit they have got pregnant.

I'm not saying It's right what they have done, but It's not an act of evil.

Most civilised societies recognise the concept of diminished responsibity when judging the actions of someone. If you accept people can act rashly in a fit of anger after provocation and act out of character then IMO you should be able to accept someone having just given birth and terrified of the reaction of those around her might also act out of character.

It's also something that occurs elsewhere in nature. Under most circumstances a mother with her young can be very dangerous & prepared to defend them to the death, yet in the instance where a mother is not prepared for motherhood, they will frequently either abandon their young, or worse, eat them. At least there's not been any reports of that.
