They are quite common In British horse racing Sugarpuff. Every day on every course, one horse will win ' best turned out horse'... It's recognition of the race horse groom who prepares the horse. I think It started there just as a joke. One horse turned up to race one day wearing a Onesie and I believe It was the one In your photograph... It then very quickly became a fad with race horse grooms attempting to out do each other In the Onesie stakes. Here's some more.

Well, I can't see much wrong with it. I don't have a onesie, but some people and horses like them. I can even picture John Wayne riding into Dodge City on a horse wearing one and not a single cow puncher giggling or even smiling, unless John was wearing a onesie instead of the mount.
After all that, I will get one for myself. Not the same design though.

If it doesn't bother the horse it doesn't bother me. Humans get bored with everyday life & we find ways to amuse ourselves.

Another trend that started on British race courses was the blanket.... After each big race, the horse enters the unsaddling enclosure and had Irons and saddle etc removed and then a blanket put on him usually stating the name of the race where he's then paraded. Trainers started adding a slogan on the blankets preempting their horse win. The funniest I saw was one day about 3 years ago... the winner had his blanket put on as usual but as the horse turned around, on the other side were the words ' ha pissed that '
