And have you ever been given something that left you speechless?

My sister and I went through quite a long period of time having to endure matching jumpers from our Mother. There are seven years between us and we weren't little, it was not amusing :-2



One thing I don't want this year is this damn cold!

Join the club BB. Mine is fortunately (and hopefully) on the way out, but at it's peak I was not a happy bunny, neither was my nose or my throat and I couldn't hear the tv for all my sneezing and coughing !

What would I like for Christmas ? Well I'd love a bigger TV (ours is 19" !), and I'd love to swap to Virgin for broadband, tv and phone, then maybe my laptop will perform as it should. As a bonus I would love one of those talented machines that copies vinyl records and audio tapes onto disks, then I could take hours, days, weeks, months to convert all my audio stuff to disks. I would find a huge amount of room I'm sure and I could well pay for the machine by selling all my vinyl records - LPs, EPs and also 78s. I do know that some are quite valuable to collectors,, so you never know. I'm not particularly bothered about saving the originals, so long as I've copied, all that I propose to sell, onto disks. It's the music/songs I want to keep.

I don't want anything for Christmas except that Christmas be cancelled forever. I hate Christmas.

Not feeling very Christmassy, not a lover of it either. It's a lot of running around for just one day. No doubt at least one of my lot will be disappointed that they didn't get something they really wanted, but that one is never pleased anyway!

I would like to just sit quietly for a day and not have anyone nagging or whingeing at me.

Oh Fuzzy, you are quite sad really. Did you not have Christmas as a child, and didn't you enjoy the celebration ? It's really for the children isn't it? But I do think that it has really gone barmy with the commercialism side of it though. People go more mad each year, so I can understand how annoying that can be particularly with all the crowds of people jostling from shop to shop. Why do people get so much food when most of the grocery stores will only close for maximum two days ? I can see your point up to a point, but it is supposed to be for the children isn't it ? If only it could be restricted to that. And of course the special Christmas services in the churches - after all that is the meaning of Christmas and that meaning is being buried under a myriad of lights, presents, parties and gluttony. Oh dear ! Of course, too, there are the massive falling-outs within family get-togethers - people just can't seem to remain nice to each other sometimes, can they ?

Maybe, Fuzzy, I can see why you hate Christmas ! It can be such a traumatic, stressful time when all is said and done, but I feel that it is people who have made it so !

I could not agree more with what you've said there, Gill. I have always believed that Christmas is meant for children and of course for believers in religion and I have fond memories of it when I was just a kid. It's not the same anymore. Business has put a new meaning on Christmas and I don't like it.

I might be sad, but I'll be ok after it's all over again for another 12 months.

If you don't want yours, you can have mine. I'm sleeping one hour at a time with this cough. Eucalyptus lozenges are the only thing that relieves the stress, but sleeping with one in the mouth is not such a good idea. So, it's a lozenge in, wait till it's dissolved then into bed while the effect is working. Then up again when the cough does its worse and repeat the process.

What I want for Christmas? A 10-minute-long, uninterrupted cuddle with my wife would be thrilling - and it would probably cure my cold as well.

Perhaps not “speechless but it did have an ever-lasting effect upon me. A little more than 20 years ago I had a Dutch pen friend who was living in the UK. For Christmas she sent me a paper-back copy of “The Pip Book, by Keith Mossman that she found in a second-hand book shop. In it is a short paragraph on the techniques of bonsai. That's what started it. Here I am, STILL today, consumed by my passion for bonsai gardening, thanks to that book!

I am a romantic, that's for sure. Ever since I hit puberty, and I am now not very far from 68. My biggest regret is that I didn't meet my (now) wife way back then. Of course, she wasn't yet born “back then so I'll just have to relish all that I have, here and now.

We've had nothing but rain for more than 2 or 3 weeks and I don't know where you live but I just assumed that you had all the snow ¦.. leaving us with none. Is that not true?

I am from Canada .. and right now where I am it is raining .. we had lots of snow a few days ago ..

It is melting away .. Doesn't look like it is going to be a white Christmas ...

We haven't seen a single snow flake this season, here in the very south of Sweden, and Christmas is already upon us. Forget snow. But that's the least of my worries because since I wrote that last post my left eye has swollen shut and is issuing gunk. Phooey! Nice Christmas Eve this is.

No hangover after 8 hours drinking vodka, at least I forgot about the cold!

Well Xmas is over for another year, as far as the Choir is concerned. We've just been putting on our Xmas Eve mini concert for the Guests of Botleigh Grange Hotel.

In the audience was little girl (probably about 18 months old), who was dancing to the singing (and frequently falling down), and then when she was put into her pushchair she was clapping vigorously after each number - although she did put her hands over her ears for Hark The Heral Angels Sing, as it was a bit loud, although she still clapped at the end. It's seeing little things like this, without the conductor being aware, that really makes you smile when up front.

Well, I don't believe it ..... it's snowing! I feel as though I'm witnessing a miracle!

Eyes need care. If you cannot see a doctor till after Christmas, at least bathe the eye carefully in a mild antiseptic. That will help prevent a recurrence in another part of the eyelid.

In any case, HT, it must be painful or at the least, uncomfortable, and I'm sorry that you are suffering this at Christmas time when maybe it is difficult to get medical attention.

Thanks Doc. I'm treating it with a frequent wash of warm water applied with cotton. It was a horrific thing to look at when I went to bed last night and when I woke (the first time) I could have vomited at the sight of it. After a time the right eye became infected as well, despite careful application, but by day-break I managed to have reduced the swelling quite a bit. I can now see out of both eyes but It's a long way to total recovery. It's not pretty I can tell you. The good part is that I already have a cold, a nasty throat, and a nose drip! I'm getting it all done at once, you see, no half measures.

If you have any antiseptic use dilute solution of that. If not, try a warm salt water solution.

Ah bless ! It is sensible to use, as FourPart has said, an antiseptic solution, in warm water on a cotton wool ball or wad. This will help to minimise any spread of the infection. Sounds like you're rotting HT ! Please find some antiseptic liquid (NOT disinfectant) of some sort, or as FP said, a weak solution of salt in warm water, although I personally would keep salt away from my eyes. So long as you are careful, salt is a very good antiseptic.

Yummy... gunky eyes :wah: just bathe with cool water its the cold, if your eyes are bloodshot then they may well be infected go show a pharmacist :-6



Ahhhh peace finally, Mother dropped home, little one in bed, big two retreated to their rooms to rest after the busy day.

You only seen couple flakes ? .. I hope you didn't try to divided them ! ...

Thanks to everyone who is wishing me well. Thank you aslo for the advice on treatment. However, telephone medical assistances said that I shouldn't jump the gun with chemicals and such and that I should use only Luke-warm water, for the time being. I'm sticking with their advice. It is getting better. My eyes are still discharging a tiny bit but nothing like the first 24 hours.

Did you get it check out .. It is always best to do that ...

What cause it do you know ? .. Was it an infection in the eye ...or an allergy ?

I haven't been to the Doc's.

Everyone was right, but me. My eyes were looking rather good until yesterday evening. That's when the infection picked up in strength and hit me with new determination. So I went off to the apotek and purchased a tube of Fucithalmic.
