New to dvd scene, and too late to cancel, I've just found out about "region 1" after ordering Covington Cross from America. Have I wasted $55.00, or can they be converted to fit region 0 universal so that I can watch them on normal dvd player? If so, how much more money do I have to fork out?

Try contacting the manufacturer for a remote control. (it is illegal for them to advertise region free in some countries). If not look on google for DVD region codes, and look on these sites for more details.

I think the answer is YES, because my son (who is 25 today - happy birthday, John III!) said to me that he`d actually done it - he said he got the instructions off the internet after a search, so good luck!

Thank you both for your replies. I bought it on eBay without reading the small print!

Here is a link to a software program to make the dvd region free dvd region converter

I think they have a free trial download. Check around on the net I'm sure you'll find something else if this one doesn't do the trick. Good luck!!

Thank you Turbonium, John8pies, Pina and others who have taken an interest. The dvd's arrived today, and they work perfectly!! That, though, is more luck than judgement. My other half is thrilled with them - I personally, have never even heard of the series. Next time I order something from abroad I'll read the small print BEFORE sending off the money! Once again, many thanks to all who have shown an interest. Anon, Fred. :)

Don't know how many people know this but if you are one of the people who buy copy DVD's or downloaded films like me, they won't play on a good make of DVD player but will on the cheapest model you can find. I had a Philips player which I thought was knackered. After getting a man to come and repair it, he told me about the cheap versions which I have now and can watch every DVD I have.
