I really can't help wondering if it's a co-incidence that the Goddess of Water is ISIS.

Not exactly a truthful headline is it.

Its a suggestion for isolated days for women only bathing that would include Muslim women.

There is no suggestion of blanket bans as the headline implies. No orders have been issued as the headline implies.

As usual it is appallingly poor reporting from The Express.

Imagine the potential furore if there was a Christian-only event...

And everyone had to "wear appropriate Christian clothing".

Would accusations of racism, or religious prejudice be bandied about?

Still, if enough people want a certain type of event/entertainment why not capitalize on that market segment. It doesn't bother me.

My problem is, the headline states that bikinis have been banned. They havent. Visitors have been ordered to cover up. They havent. It the usual Express/Mail type headline that has little to do with the actual report.

I don't see a problem, if there is a need for such women only sessions with particular rules on dress. It doesnt affect the usual running of the pool and the wearing of bikinis

Typical "journo" incompetence/ lack of research/ inattention or bias. Millions of examples out there!

The notice pictured does specify that clothing must be "Culturally & Islamically Approriate" though.

If it was just a Women's only night I wouldn't have any problem with it. However, despite the quote being made saying "This is a female-only event and is not specific to any ethnic or religious group", the advertising placard doesn't echo this in any way whatsoever. It is clearly directed to Islam. That much is not a matter of biased spin on the part of the Express. That much is an illustrated fact.

Even if it is directed toward Muslim women, its a private session and would not impact on the rest of us enjoying our normal sessions at all.

I would be free to wear my mankini, Im sure

If there are enough Muslim women out there to give a decent attendance, and these same women feel uncomfortable with western dress, then I have no complaints on that score. Sure, the Express may have got it right, insomuch as it was "appropriate Muslim dress", but it's only equivalent to having a "Children-only" event, or a "senior swimmers" event, IMO.

It would be no different to having a "Whites Only" night either - and that definitely wouldn't be tolerated.

Segregation by gender is one thing. Segregation by Culture & Religion is an entirely different matter. They may say that it's not ethnically specific, but you have to wear Islamic dress.

In the words of Henry Ford "Any colour you like, as long as it's black".

Having a "Whites only" session is not the same at all. Women and specifically Muslim women require an environment that would make them feel comfortable in their surroundings. It's providing a right and proper service to those who cannot normally join in

For the journalist it is a successful headline - it drags people in to read the article and therefore increases circulation. Truth and integrity have very little to do with it.

Exactly! It's a "no-brainer".
