Patrick McNee. A truly great actor. Just a pity he became so type-cast as Steep, of the New Avengers.

I love this guy! A great actor & I loved him as Steed w/Diana Rigg. Gosh, everyone I'm familiar with are dropping like flies.

I will concede that after Diana Rigg left I could no longer watch it, but The Avengers was one of the defining moments for British television in the very early sixties. It very much led from the front.

I watched the inestimable Patrick Macnee on film a couple of months ago opposite Alistair Sim, from ten years before The Avengers, and I enjoyed his acting, but it was odd seeing Steed play the part. Once he'd invented Steed the part pretty much defined him to an outsider like me. It was a magnificent part, though.
