Buckingham Palace has defended footage of the Queen performing a Nazi salute as a child by saying it shows the royal family “playing.

The grainy film obtained by The Sun dates from 1933, when Adolf Hitler was gathering power as Chancellor of Germany, and lasts just 17 seconds.

Does anybody care ?

It's sums up, pretty much why I hate that rag so much (Not allowed in my house, along with the mail) Her Madge was 7 years old and wouldnt have understood the implications. The Queen Mother wouldnt have understood them either, so soon after Hitlers rise to power.

Its a nothing story.

Apart from how the Sun got the info of course.

At that time, few people, even in Germany had any notion of what that gesture might mean to us, nearly 80 years later.

You'd think that with all the other scandals of disgraceful Tory Party Corruption to hand at the moment the Sun could find something more juicy. Oh yeah - it was the Sun that laid claim to getting the Tories elected.

Seriously, people ridicule all sorts of OTT Political Figures. Also, she was apparently being egged on by her Uncle, Edward VII. I doubt a girl of that age would even have had any idea what Nazism was all about at that time. It was just some comical Charlie Chaplin lookalike to be made fun of.

It has got the Sun lots of air time, so job done.

I wonder exactly what 'Public interest' this serves.

It might prove to be a monkey on the Sun's back if it was stolen

ahem it wasn't only the queen using the (what we now call) the nazi salute in that time period. Before ww2 in the US it was used when making the pledge of allegiance.
