Good program about the British and slavery, well worth a view.

Britains forgotten slave owners

And the searchable website Legacies of British Slavery

Two things I was unaware of, that following the end of the slave trade, slavery was still legal for some time. When it was finally banned, slave owners were compensated massively, and the scale of ownership was widespread .

Now that bit of information has put the plea for reparation from blacks into some sort of perspective.

Well gee.

Who could not see that coming?

In this country race hustlers have tried to extort money based on unpaid labor, etc. whatever.

Difference is, here, slave owner were not compensated for their loss.

Two hundred years, ten generations.

Who is to pay this money, and to whom?

"There may be trouble ahead" ("Let's face the music and dance" - Fred Astaire & Ginger Rogers in the film. Song sung by Nat Cole.

I've just put this in writing for Mr. spot's benefit owing to his predicament with his internet capability at the moment, just so he knows what was the YouTube item.

I note that of the eleven compensation recipients in Cornwall, three are Church of England ministers.

The fact that so many ordinary people had shares in the odd slave or two, and seeing pins being placed on the map of the UK indicating where they lived made it all very real to me. The fact that the trade was stopped before slavery, and then the balance sheets with names and ages and the value depending on age and ability, with people claiming their pound of flesh...........literally, is chilling.Little old vicars wives, and such like queuing for compensation.

It was 'of the time' and the world has moved on a long long way, but tragically some people still draw breath in this world that view with disdain a blackman that has the audacity to become the President of the USA.

No wonder we have the occasional riot ?

Problem we have here is a failure to communicate.

And here slavery was not confined to the platations.

An interesting point of view.

All because a predominately white nation elected a black guy to the presidency?

My post was about historical events in the UK, then expanded to the current US President,in relation to the passage of time and the advancement of mankind in general........and Dawg takes it personally as if the universe revolves/depends on his infinitesimal corner of the cosmos and what he has for breakfast..............it doesn't.

And he says "Problem we have here is a failure to communicate.", if he substituted communicate with Listen or Understand I could see what he meant.

I checked the register, there are none of my ancestors on it. We were poor but we were honest.
