Not surprising one bit.

Depression in one degree or another is fairly commonplace today. Not surprised, given the increasing pressure on society in general, and the 'ethics' of most politicians/money-men, plus the insane rantings of menacing groups of butchers like ISIS!

Depression is a term that is used far too freely as a generic term for a much wider range of conditions. In particular, Depression, in the clinical sense, is caused by an imbalance of Seratonin in the brain. However, the same symptoms can be brought about by a multitude of things, such as stress, family history, environment, weather, peer pressure, etc.

I was attending the Autism clinic this afternoon, where much of my condition (where I am frequently suicidal), has been diagnosed to be as a direct result of deep rooted anxieties from a childhood of physical abuse from my Father. There may be times when I can be in tears & wanting to end it all, but technically, I am not suffering from Depression.
