Congratulations to the local Police for being on the ball.



I've just been woken up by the Police at my door, asking if I was the owner of a Lexmoto Arrow (Marcus, in other words). My first thought, was "What have I done?", then "OMG - it's been written off". However, they reassured me everything was ok, and that they had someone in custody, having caught someone tampering with it.



Apparently they had been call out to investigate a local disturbance (which I had been thinking about reporting myself, but it seemed to sort itself out), and whilst they were patrolling the area they spotted someone tampering with the bike & nabbed him.



The steering lock has been forced & the wires severed, and the Right Front indicator's not working, so likely to cost up to £150 for repairs, but hopefully I'll be able to claim for that, either in Criminal Court or, if necessary, in another Civil Proceeding (Small Claims). Of course, I've agreed to give evidence, if required, but I can't see it getting any further than Magistrates, as he can't really enter a plea of "Not Guilty", as he was caught Red Handed.



Actually, when I take it for the repairs, I might as well get its 4000km service at the same time. A bit early for a change, but it makes sense to get it all done at once.



The important thing, though, is that everything else seems to be working, so at least I've still got transport to work this afternoon.

Chalk one up to the police for being there when it mattered.

My biker son says that steering locks are notoriously unreliable. He bought himself a heavy-duty chain with heavy-duty plastic sleeve to protect paintwork etc. and locked it around the bike with a low shackle (can't get bolt cropper in to cut it) heavy duty padlock.

As far as he was aware, nobody even tried to break the chain. His motorcycle was never stolen and it was a 600 cc sh1t-off-a-shovel, eminently 'nick-worthy' !

I normally use a D-Lock shackle in the rear wheel, locked to a security cable fastened to one of the Bike Bay rails when at home (just the bracket when out & about), but when I got home Saturday it was blowing an 85mph gale, and even walking from the bike I was having to lean at nigh on 45 degrees into the wind. Crouching down to bracket the bike would have been impossible - let alone setting the alarm. It's fairly mild out there tonight, and I've already had to disarm it to stop it from going off all night.
