I know I posted about the moths - they fed my frogs for a month. NOW I have no less than 10 black and red ant entry dens and 2 red ant entry dens on my property. It took me 2 months last year to chase the b*****d's out of my vegie garden. I know they need a place to live BUT not next to my house or BBQ, or patio, thank-you. I've tried every commercial ant killer and the ants laugh at me :p . I've tried a boric acid/borax/glycol solution on them - they laugh at me :wah: Any ideas???? HELP!!!! PS - I have an acre so I'd like to chase them to the perimeters of the property.

kill them nasty buggers, two months ago when I was in Florida I stepped in a Red Ants nest (wearing open sandles) and they did a number on feet & ankles.

I saw a TV ad just the other day that said "Ortho-Max Bug Killer" Kills all ground bugs. It's worth a try, you probably can get it a Home Depot.

Good Luck! :guitarist

The problem with sprays and powders NV, are you only kill the ants you see,

and all they'll do is send more of the little buggers out from the nest.

The best thing to do is buy a product that the scout ants will take back into their nests.

Here in Britain you can buy a product that you put on a flat smooth surface (piece of glass) at the entry or near to the nest.

The idea being, the ants will carry the sticky, sweet food back into the nest & start to poison the colony.

I did this last year at my mums, after months of spraying & putting down powder, they had gone within a week of using this stuff.

Those ants are showing you no respect with their scorn and mockful laughter! The ants around my place don't laugh at me anymore. Without a magnifying glass, I can't really say for sure, but I think I can see their little mouths go wide open, in utter fear and terror! :wah:

Boiling water, lots of it (sounds cruel, I know, but generally very effective). By the way, are they little ants or GI-ants (ho, ho!) ?

you should have had a chemical company come in before the start of spring. i have those tiny red ones that appear only in one area of the house and outside. the chemical company i don't know what they did brought the population down. they now come out dead? previous sprayer (4) years the insects were immune to. i would say the hot soapy water outside, i am a fan of moth flakes, keep the area wet? ants are tough, i would say fall & spring have a chemical company shock the place, it really helps. i think here it costs about $185.00. :-6

Hmmm....I used to have a problem with them, but then I quit eliminating the wolf spiders and viola! The spiders eat the ants!

Anybody know how to get rid of a plague of wolf spiders? :o

I am buying both the product from Home Depot and the one LC mentioned. Our British friends didn't tell me the name or the major chemical ingredient in their cure. I will keep everyone posted. I have red flags posted on the hills so no one - especially me - gets bit.

The one that i've used is called Nippon Ant Killer Liquid

Nippon liquid destroys complete ant colonies without trace. Contains disodium tetraborate.

I dont know if you can buy it in the states or if the ingrediants are permitted

where you are,

You only need a few drops but its powerful stuff!

BWAAAAHAHA. I tracked this stuff down at home depot - one bag left (is that a clue or what?) I put it on those GI ants from Hell about a week ago and watched - to my amazement - as they carried it down their holes (10 ant piles). They did not roll over on their backs and laugh at me. I felt very superior LMFAO. Thanks LC - I can step out my front door and not have to do a hoppy dance to keep from getting stung. :-6

My friend told me to go to a Chinese market- where the owners are really from China. Ask them for "Ant Chalk." They'll look both ways and slip you some from under the counter. Evidently it works, so it's not FDA approved. You draw a line around your counters and baseboards with the chalk, and the ants will not cross it.
