One would have imagined there was, in most civilized countries, a law preventing people from self-awarding themselves distinctions to which they're not academically entitled.

Apparently not.

I instance one Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald, who markets himself professionally as Dr. Luke and seems intent on becoming as unpopular as Martin Shkreli.

Then there's Dr. Dre who may, on account of now being rich beyond the dreams of avarice, have been awarded an honorary doctorate but certainly didn't have a Ph.D. when he started using the title.

I disapprove.

Did they not force Dr. Collis Brown to drop the Dr. because he was not entitled to use it?

ISTR that they made him remove the morphine from his stomach medicament too.
