Re: Will President Trump run for a second term?

Harris has worked very hard at avoiding the major spotlight, lately.
I don't know enough about her to make a decision, other than I am almost to the point of voting for anyone who gets the ticket opposite of whoever the Rethuglicans put up.

I may register as a Democrat next year so that I have a say in the primary selection.

I am hoping that the MAGA movement is foiled by their Orange-haired Baby getting tossed in the slammer before the election cycle gets started.

On the local front, our gun-toting barmaid, Lauren Boebert was bumped from here congressional seat.

I was premature on my comment about Boebert. She is neck and neck at the moment. It could end up with a run-off.

The latest from The Independent: "she trails Adam Frisch by 64 votes in Colorado election". That's what they call close! It's just as well you voted.

Actually, right now, she has about a 400 vote lead. The counting continues.

Well the "red Wave" kinda collapsed, leaving some rocky shores for both parties.
Our Senate will have to potential to actually get things done for the next couple of years.

The House will become the stumbling block, as the reds will likely have a bare majority.

Neither side will have enough a a majority to really get carried away with their agenda.
I think that will be a good thing. but the next election in two years will be an adventure.

Hopefully we can discourage The Donald from trying to run for Pres, again. But we have a Governor from Florida who has already declared that he will be running for the White house in the next election. HE has the ability to out-trump Trump. I can see the possibility of him become Trump's VP nominee in 2024.
This would stir up the Red masses to a frightening level. An army of Stormtrumpers, frothing at the mouth, hoping to overturn the entire constitution. (Except for the 2nd Amendment, perhaps.)

While there are still some sensible Republicans, it seem that most of them have gone into hiding.

There is one Senate race which is going into a run-off.
Two guys are running for the second Senate seat in Georgia. The Democrat is a Baptist Pastor from the Church once led by none other than the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr.
The Republican is a once-somewhat-famous NFL Running back who has found Jesus and thinks that God and the Republican want him to lead the Nation.

In our part of the world, the "Pistol-packing Barmaid" has all but secured her re-election.

It's gonna be an interesting couple of years.

Our political system as a whole seems to be in quite a mess. The parties have polarized to the point that no one will give an inch and whichever party has even the tiniest majority can make life hell for everyone who is not on their side. Compromise has become a forbidden word.

If you ignore our regional assemblies which are as polarized and partisan as your present Washington circus, what we in Britain used to call in the 1970s "Consensus Politics" has re-established itself.

We, like you, have two right-wing parties in our lower and upper chambers. Both parties for the time being have practically identical policies. They make a lot of noise in debate, but the outcome would be similar whichever was in charge.

There is no point having a choice of candidates at periodic elections if the resulting government is indistinguishable whoever wins.

Both America and Britain would do better if one of our two major parties offered a socialist alternative to the electorate.

The BBC says today "If Republicans win the House, McCarthy will face a formal vote to become speaker when the new Congress convenes in January."

Is that a vote in the House, with Democrats participating? That's how we do it in the UK but it seems to me unlikely in America.

Speaker of the House is selected by the majority party. Similar to your PM. Though I do not think that he/she has quite the power that you PM seems to wield. The Senate has far more real affect on the goings on in our government than your House of Lords appear to hold.
The republicans look to hold the slimmest majority in recent history when the counting is all done.

And, just to make it even more dismal, T rump is announcing his candidacy for Pres in 2014.

I do hope the gummint actually has dome real dope on him to shake him out of his tree, I would love to see him manacled and being carted off to a federal prison for a few decades before the campaign season for 2014 begins.

I note that Former President Trump has announced his run for the 2024 White House. Among other things he will take "steps to restore voter confidence, including requiring voter identification, same-day voting and 'only paper ballots'. All ballots should be counted by election night, Mr. Trump said."

I agree that all ballots should be paper, to provide a clear permanent auditable trail. I don't think any electronic system is auditable and hence it's not trustworthy, even if it does in fact provide the service it claims. I've written as much over several election cycles here. In 2008, for example, I wrote "Are any electronic voting machines with no sight-verified paper audit trail being used this time? Anywhere else in the world, Americans would laugh hard at the election-fixing potential of that technology, but when it's in their own back yard for some reason they think it's blemish-free." I still think so, and so does Former President Trump, and no other presidential contender seems to have ever raised it as a problem.

Should he win he'll be 82 by the end of this new term of office. That ought to be unacceptable. If President Biden were to run and win, he'd be 84 by the end of his new term of office. That ought to be equally unacceptable. Neither of them should be running for office in 2024. In my opinion both of them were too old to run for office in 2020. The primaries should filter out candidates that old.
