I am pretty sure that they would rather forget all of the "contributions" various foreign nations made to their history in the latter 20th century. American, Canadian, Australian, etc.

I doubt they like having US flags around on our veterans day, as well.

Canada? Canada did not send troops & did not officially support the war. Why would Vietnam allow the people who invaded their country & murdered them to display their flags & medals? That would be nuts.

I sort of agree with you. Lars you forgot about the french and english too before the war.....(police action)

I think it needs a bit of background on this though..... Australia, for want of a better word is 'trafficing' refugees to vietnam and their recieving a ****load of money for the privilage. Also, this desicion should have been made clear before a 1000 vets travelled their and spent money there.

By all accounts vietnamese vetrans have been very accommadating and very friendly. Their vets put on a dinner for our vets. It seems to be only the government.

Its a dirty business.

If you want to draw conclusion of invasion and mutder though you have to remember that Australians are welcome in Turkey, that was an invasion as well and Canadians were definately there!

Maybe politically its too soon. And i must point out its only the Long Tan memorial.

That was a battle Australians fought. Might want to look it up.

I stand corrected on Canada. I plead being tired and opening my browser without thinking things through very well.

No, I did not forget about the French and and English.

I know that it was mostly the government who stepped in to try and prevent the event, entirely. (after allowing the folks into the country in the first place, knowing why they were coming. I understand, though that in previous years some people seemed to have made quite the party out of the event, and the Vietnamese gummint would love to see it have a much lower public profile going forward, and wouldn't mind putting the whole thing to rest. They want to move on.
