Is there a way? I have 350+ vinyls I would like to put on CD. Some are beyond repair - 80% are good - 20% are excellent.

silly to wait for a reply, actually.
as a do-it-yourselfer, you need a reasonably fast computer (built within the last two years is a good starting point), an audio capture card (most computers have one, newer computers have the sound card on the motherboard), a CD burner, some software, and some cables. i've transferred one or two albums to CD for a special purpose (music for my dad's memorial service), and while it wasn't a 'set it and forget it' proposition, it was doable, albeit a bit time consuming.
commercially, i'd bet that with a bit of poking around, one could find a local place that might be able to do the transfers for you, assuming you're near a relatively good sized metropolitan area. i would not expect it to be cheap however.

oh, last tidbit on this - the software i used was from this company:

lp ripper and lp recorder. i'm sure there are many other packages out there that will do approximately the same thing. overall the programs above did the trick relatively inexpensively.

Another good thing to do is get music editing software. I use Sound Forge for my own music, and have used it on my vinyl transfers. There are many different programs with trial versions on the net (and um, [removed - webmaster], etc. - but you didn't hear that from me! :yh_shame

) You can eliminate scratches and pops, boost the output, etc. from the recordings with these editing programs. Makes the listening back much more enjoyable! :yh_bigsmi

please don't discuss pirating software.
thank you.

thanks. i apologize for my overly sharp response. main thing is that even the *appearance* of tacit approval of pirating can get us into hot water.
