Sir Thomas Sean Connery is dead at 90.
My first encounter with him was Dr No, Still my favorite James Bond flick - Mostly because it introduced me to Ian Fleming and his books, and a whole new genre of fiction.
But I followed Mr Connery's works with a passion.
I think that my favorite of his films was Outland. A Spacey take on High Noon.

I'd agree with that.
Roger Moore was just too silly, and the films were, as well.
Craig was too serious and brooding, and violence ruled the plots.

One of my favorite actors, the best Bond of course! Oh I loved that voice!

I tried reading a few of the books but they didn't appeal to me much. Have you ever read Clive Cussler? Kind of in the same vein, if I remember correctly.

Cussler tells some good tales.
Fleming's bond stories were very formulaic. Read one, you've read them all, really. But for a young techie in the '60s they were quite entertaining.

I never had any time for him. No matter what role he played it was just a case of Sean Connery reading a script, rather than as an actor. The mark of a good actor is that they become the role they are playing. Connery never did that. The most farcical of the lot has to be The Hunt For Red October. A Russian Submarine Captain with a broad Scottish accent.
