A Mystery!

Today as I trundled across my yard I came across a large egg (pictured) lying on the ground.

It's a light blue/green color about 3 inches long and has been hatched.

I looked around for a newly hatched bird but could see none.

My property is surrounded by tall black walnut trees in which live many red tailed hawks so it's possible that one of these stole the egg and then dropped it.

Its not an egg I've ever seen before.

It's also possible that it was laid by a snake.

Any ideas, Forum members?

It might be a red tailed hawk's egg. We have many of them in the high trees.

It's about the size of a large duck egg or perhaps a goose. It's blue/green in color with black markings at various intervals.
