This has been going on for more than thirty years. You may not have heard about it in Canada because it doesn’t concern you unless you want to stirr people up against the U.S. Military. There have always been a few parents who don’t want the calls at home and most recruiters honor their wishes once they are known. Generally, the calls at home from the recruiters are considered a part of reaching adulthood and being considered eligible for service is an honor to most.

We have a totally volunteer military here in the U.S. and young adults are not forced to join just because they got a phone call. The information is obtained from students when they voluntarily take the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery at school.

On the lighter side ----- there has been a saying in my house......

When you reach 18 there are 3 choices: college, work or the military. Whatever your choice is doesn't matter to me as long as you leave home! :wah: :wah:

It doesn't matter what I say- cause its me whose saying it! I could say 2 American Dollars plus 2 American dollars is Four American Dollars, and i'd still be wrong because i'm "meddling"

I ask again- WHAT DOES MY NATIONALITY HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING? IF MY ARGUEMENT IS FLAWED, THEN IT IS- THE COUNTRY OF MY ORIGIN SHOULD NOT BE OF ISSUE.

But since you need to cling to belittling my arguements on the fact that I shouldn't be arguing them- not that they have no merit- is a sign of your own arguements weakness.
excuse me, but what "argument" were you arguing? I see an opening post, which is an article reposted from MSNBC. it was posted without comment, without an argument attached. you've made no argument to belittle.

however, what happens, regularly, almost daily, people who don't live in the US post 'news' or articles pertaining to the internal affairs of the US. nine times out of ten, they are YAGWAA - Yet Another Gratuitous Whack At America.

it has become rather tiresome. i understand that a three year long investigation into corruption in canadian politics went to the judge in the case just a week or so ago. of course, you'd never know it by reading forumgarden - curiously, not a single canadian FGer thought it newsworthy or topical enough to post about it for discussion. i wonder why that would be? we have US citizens here on FG who routinely post articles and topics critical of the US, and US policy.

are canadians incapable of criticizing their own country?

My response earlier was a little over the top. It was, however, for the very reason you explain so well.

Law enforcement is acutely aware of the fact that a family disturbance is between the members of the family. Once they step in from outside, they are in danger of having the entire family turn on them.
