I have just returned from the east coast (NEW YORK & NEW JERSEY) and have what I think is an interesting observation. I started looking at faces really close and never, ever saw a smiling face, not one. I never saw so many stressed out looking people in my whole life. Grim looks of determination or frustration, or both, I don't know, but no one seemed happy. No smiling faces.

As soon as I got back to California, I started seeing happier faces. People actually smiling. So, it's official. Definitely more stressfull living in the east.

I do think there are regional personality differences.

When I was online dating sometimes I would go a head and do a national search and I tended to have just one or two really high matches in each state except for IL where I had a ton of high matches.

I think some of us in the west are anti social because our parents left the east to get away from people. Some of this could be genetic. Is New York higher in German DNA? Us Germans not the most smiliest.

It could also be that 911 hit New York/New Jersey harder then it hit California.

Is one ecconomy doing better then the one?

When I was a kid I could tell a major difference from Fort Collins and Greeley.

Greeley was struggling no one would say high. Now that Greeley is growing again it is not so rudish as it was decades ago.

LOL! You should become a teacher, Lon! I get greeted by 37 smiling faces every morning!:D

Unfortunately, that makes it very hard for me to be in a bad mood! :wah:

After living on both coasts, I have to say that in CA people really do seem more laid-back. Happier, although I wouldn't say that means friendlier.... no offense to anyone in CA....just that "service with a smile" doesnt apply to most of the people here, even if I am being nice to them.

"Service with a smile"??!?!?!! This concept has gone out the window along with manners and common courtesy. Unless you wak into my bar, where everyone gets a smile from me! (As long as I get a tip! :yh_rotfl )

Tiping is always good policy. One time though this waiter was flirting with my wife so his tip was to "cut back on the hun"

Actually in northern colorado most restraunts do have good customer service. Even some of the fast food restraunts. Greeley teneds to be an exception where you order and wonder if your going to ever be served.

You don't find that a compliment, Lotto? My guy gets LOTS of attention wherever we go, and I just sit back, grin smugly, and know he's going home with me. "Eat your hearts out ladies!!!"

There is a line that can be crossed, but harmless flirting always makes me grin, and gives his ego a boost, too!

At first it was cute as he is half my wife's age.

We were eating at that restraunt 2 or 3 times a month. And his little crush on my wife kept growing so after a while we had to put the teany boper in check.
