I recently started grinding my own coffe beans. Its a whole new ballgame, I will never drink the canned again. Im experimenting so far I like Kona beans theyre fruity & nutty real mellow with a nice aftertaste.

I cant handle the french roast its too strong but Im open for suggestions.

Anyone ?

My wife likes those fru-fru flavored beans, but I'm cheap. Old-fashioned Maxwell House for me, unless Foldiers is on sale.

No good asking me, I drink very very weak black coffee, actually I may as well just drink hot water!!!:D

I know its not cheap. I spend about 8-9 bucks for one of those bags but it lasts a good while.

Nothing but fru fru for me from now on !

Now you're talkin' Nomad!! There's nothing like fresh-ground coffee beans.

When the wallet allows, I buy Starbucks espresso roast beans, grind them very fine and brew up a pot of black, dark, keep-you-up-for-three-days heaven. If my spoon doesn't stand straight up in my mug, it ain't strong enough!!

I've tried the kona blend, and it is good, but stronger and VERY potent is my favorite.

Where are you buying your beans from? When the season allows, go stock up on the Christmas blend from Starbucks. Very spicy, not too strong.

I get my beans at the grocery store they must have 100 different blends.

Sometimes Ill mix up a couple different types. I try something new everytime.

The french roast really does a # on my stomach so I stay away from that.

I don't care what kind it is just so it's HOT and STRONG..!! The fancy stuff is great as well. I just want a cup of JOE that smells great, and gives me the kick I need..

well this will be the subject of ridicule...i stop at dunkin' donuts on my way to work for a LARGE iced coffee! so here come the donut jokes....:rolleyes: ...it's funny, Bothwell, who is English, thrives on lots of coffee, and my drink when i wake up is English breakfast tea with milk and one tiny sugar. ...when i do make coffee it has to be columbian. :yh_coffee :yh_coffee :yh_coffee

Not sure about the iced cofee never tried it but theyre coffee coffee is pretty good.

Im not crazy about the chain donut shops. The small family bakeries are the best.

The kind of donuts that are fried up so theyre a little crispy on the outside. You just dont get that at Dunkin or Krispy Kreme.

Speaking of Krispy Kreme we had one open here last yr and the lines were so long for 2 months they had their own traffic control. Its not the donuts just good marketing.

on every street in little havana, miami, is a cuban coffee stand, really just an open window...they serve tiny cups of cuban coffee which is like rocket fuel...one sip and you are wired for the day!

Yup I had a place like that near my home.

On Sunday morning I would walk there, get the paper and a cup of Cuban coffee, the lady isnt lying ! One cup and you are wired ALL DAY LONG !

I'm with you on this one Far - if I can see through the coffee it's **** water and I won't bother to drink it.

Sounds like my Aunt, she uses the same Tea Bag over at least "4" times!!! We say the same thing to her, it's just hot water! Forget about her drinking COFFEE-never has, never will!! :wah:

You're right Nomad, fresh ground Coffee is the greatest! We have been grinding our own Coffee beans for years. We also experimented with different beans, so much so that we formulated our "own" personal blend. 1/4 Hazelnut, 1/4 Columbian dark, 1/4 Kona, 1/4 Decaf dark roast. "1" coffee scoop per each cup of water- It's heaven in a cup!

Just brewed myself a big ol' pot of french roast, strong, dark and barking. Too bad I don't have any IV tubing, I'd mainline it!!! :yh_rotfl

Has anyone ever had boiled coffee (cowboy) made in the coals.....?

It is quite a art to making it just right.

I bet it's some powerful stuff, BTS. Have you had it? I'd try it for sure. Any tips?

Yes it is all I had when working on ranches years ago.

You need a metal coffee pot (usally about a gallon size).







Fill it up about 2/3 full and add 2 heaping cups of a dark coffee blend.

Place on top of coals that you pull out of the campfire. Bring to boil and boil for about 15 mins. Remove from direct heat and add about a cup or so of COLD water (this drops the grinds to bottom)

ENJOY.........

Hey, BTS, I'd be interested in hearing more about working on a ranch. Was it a real cattle ranch where you drove herds and branded cattle and slept in bunkhouses and such? That sounds like the kind of life I'd love. And where were you when you were doing this kind of work? Montana? Texas?

Being one that enjoys a strong cup of coffee (BLACK of course) I have tried most all of the fancy ways to brew them. For a good rush, Espresso made with fresh ground Kona beans has got to be the best I think. You drink 2 of those (black) and you don't pee all morning. Just HUMMMMMMM

I will BR............ Thanx for asking. I am so proud of my roots in the ranching/farming side of my family thats goes back to early Virginia.

Dunkin' Donuts makes the BEST coffee!

I don't speak french, but I brew fresh ground beans in my coffee maker. The finer the grind, the stronger the cup. (and as cheap as I am, you know I grind mine like flour so I don't have to use so much :wah: )

No, I have a small electric grinder and a standard old Mr Coffee.
