This past Saturday, a 4 year old golden retriever named Jake swam from

Alcatraz to SF with his daddy, Jeff Pokonosky of San Diego. They were

both participating in the 10th annual South End Rowing Club Alcatraz

Invitational. Jake had a stomach full of scrambled eggs when he dog

paddled his way into history, the first dog to compete in the event.

Jake placed 72nd out of 500 swimmers.

Go, Jake!

-Jake you are awsome, however, a dog will swim out of instinct, I do think its a bit mean to make the dog swim that far, I mean it's not like the owner set a plate for him at the table(um, maybe he did) and said hey Jake today I'm goinga make you swim your ass off , sound good to you?

-"wruff"

-"I'll take that as a yes" says the owner

"Lets go"

-just my opinion, I love pets and think they should have choices. Or I could be wrong and when he was asked"Hey, Jake today I'm goinga make you swim your ass off, sound good to you"

-he may very well have said"Hell ya, Bob, lets have a beer and then we'll go"

-Life should not be a traffic jam, but 60mph side spin into a paralelle parking space done smoothly.

Kool, you can speak dog......... wow wow.

I've had and trained dogs for many years and still can not speak the dog language. I envy you.

I can read their body language and thoughts through their expessions and actions but can't speak it.

The only choices they make are the ones I make for them and they respect me for that.
