The few snippets of soap opera shows that I've seen during the day are eye-openers. But, I don't think they compare to British or Italian TV.

The offending show we have over here is/was The Jerry Springer Show. What rot. Jerry Springer laughs it off as "entertainment!" - but most little kids watching during the day can't tell the difference.

Question: Which of the following was the topic of an episode of the Jerry Springer Show last season?

a) I'm Marrying a Transsexual!

b) I'm a Breeder For the Klan!

c) I Stole My 12-Year-Old's Boyfriend!

d) I Want to Join a Suicide Cult!

e) I Cut Off My Manhood!

Answer: All of them.

I have watched soaps on and off since I was 15. I agree a lot of sex and stuff on it but I think Jerry Springer goes beyond the soaps! Now and then if someone has it on I will watch-to laugh. I watched the soaps to be entertained-leave my own problems and watch someone elses-however my life at times was more complex than the soaps! IE-My ex husband murders his sis, his other sis marries my brother, ex husband gets re married in Jail and his wife and I become good friends, etc-goes on and on. What some people see on soaps and say is not real-haven't seen my life-good Jerry show I think! But raising my daughter-her nap time was during the soap schedule, another reason I watched cause worked swing shift. I could never afford cable and my tv reception does not get PBS stations, so a lot of childrens programs on cable and other channels we never saw-same with my grandson-most of his watching is VHS or DVD child movies and such.

I quit watching soaps years ago. You can watch one once every six months and it's still the same old story line. I like Springer every now and then for a good laugh. They HAVE to pay those people. Wrestling any more is more like a soap opera.

I thought this report might add some fuel to the fire. I find it interesting -

Sexual Content On TV Spurs

Teens Into Action

By Amanda Gardner

HealthDay Reporter

9-16-4

(HealthDayNews) -- Teenagers who view sexual content on television, even if it only involves characters talking about sex, are twice as likely to start having intercourse in the ensuing year compared with peers who do not watch such content.

Sexual content on TV was also more likely to hasten adolescents' movement from one "base" to another, in other words, from kissing to breast fondling to genital touching and on to oral sex, new research found.

"Regardless of which level kids were at the beginning of this study, watching more sex on TV was associated with a much higher probability of moving up along the continuum," said Rebecca Collins, senior author of the study, which appears in the September issue of Pediatrics.

I think you're up at the other end from me. One "Jaycee" (sp?) who psots

here sometimes also *may* be British, having said "I'll get me coat" in another

thread - however, with a name like that, I should think "Jaycee" is a foreigner.
