Help with downloads.

I try to download files,but some files go to my winRAR folder,that in which i do not have updated.Is there any way i can download the files that i want without having to purchase winRAR,or does my downloads being deverted to winRAR mean i dont have enough space to support the download????:-3 ??I dont know anything about computers,so any help purtaining to this matter would be greatly apreciated.
