The modern soldier has the best in high-tech weaponry, satellite navigation and lightweight combat clothing, but until now there has been one thing missing from the kit bag, sensible underpants for hot climates.

Enter 'combat underwear,' the first army-issue smalls since the 1960s, designed to look after 'privates' better than ordinary civilian equivalents.

The British Army unveiled its underpants yesterday as part of its new range of desert clothing, the first large-scale redesign of kit since the first Gulf war.

''These will make 'going commando' (doing without) a thing of the past.'' The new pants according to Col Silas Suchanek, head of defence clothing, are made from an artificial anti-microbial fabric treated to prevent infections. They are also seamless to reduce chaffing.www.dailytelegraph.co.uk

Yousa! I never thought about the problems facing commando types! I have thought about how brutal Battaan must have been during the famous forced march in the steamy, wet, sweltering Philppine jungle. I can't imagine the agony.

My solution in combat was to wear synthetic bikers shorts with the crotch cut out so the guys and gun could swing free... over that a normal pair of cotton underwear... a very simple solution... prior to synthetic bikers shorts I went 'commando' in hot weather and in cold weather I wore silk underwear.

Gives a whole new meeting to 'whats under your kilt' now dont it!

Now I bet ever swinging gun in the army has their own way!yeah Just for you :driving:
