as the poppy reaths were laid at the town statues throughout britain today, i paused in my town to look around at the lack of people paying respects to the brave men who gave their life for us
each year less & less of those men are alive to be present, each year less & less people are there to pay respect, so will those soldiers just be forgotten
makes me ashamed

There was several cleabrations in our home town today in honour of VJ day,
including 4 WW2 planes flying over the town, that was really thrilling.
PS, Welcome back Butter, missed ya X

That's like here in the States. Memorial Day has turned from a day to remember our vets, to the "official" party day to kick off summer. Shameful.
Good for you, Butter, to remember them in your own way anyway. :yh_clap

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
