Does anyone have a pet peeve to share?
Like today, I went to buy groceries and purchased a bag of Columbian whole bean coffee. Ground it at the store because my coffee grinder was broke at home. Get home, make a pot of coffee and what does it taste like? Hazelnut coffee. Why can't these stores have 2 separate grinders-one for regular coffee and one for flavored coffee?!

heh. Reminds me of the other day. We went to the supermarket and they had a special on these boxes of fresh turnovers. Apple or Cherry. So, my husband, picks up a box of apple (which he LOVES) and a box of Cherry as something different. Get them home. Both boxes are cherry...incorrect labeling. :-5

last week, a government agency has some irreplaceable original documents of mine. they are going to mail them back to me. i am very adamant and specific about my house number being correct please! ...well a couple days later my mail lady had rescued them from "return to sender" limbo because the house number was wrong. i could have lost them forever if not for my alert mail lady. i LOATHE incompetence!!

I HATE THAT!
I also hate people who can't master subject-verb agreement. Example: "Where's the forks?"
Or ending sentences in prepositions...it can be hard to avoid in speech, but when you're writing, for the love of all that is holy, do not stick "at" at the end of the sentence! "Where's the dog at?" UGH! (Worse: Where's the dogs at? I think I would have to kick someone in the kneecap if I saw that written out.)
I also hate the word "guesstimate."

ONE of my pet hates. Buying a pie or something in a box....gettiing it home and find it's much smaller than indicated on the box.....rip off !

People who cram up my back side in line ups. I had one lady and her daughter read a magazine behind me one day in a walmart line up. They were so close that when I went to turn my head I could feel my hair brush the magazine every time. Now that pushes my boiling point to the limit.
PP number 2 people who aire their dirty laundry in public. They blather all over the place about their troubles with others, but won't either go straight to the sourse and deal with it, or just drop it and avoid further issues. (this particularly irks me with at work situations)

Personally, I cringe every time I see someone get corrected for something like that. MY six year old says aminals instead of animals. It's just one of those things. I used to break it up into separate sounds and she has no problem with that. But damned if the whole word is coming out correctly. Frustration all around. So, I let it go, because life is just too short and I know what she means.
Bravo, to each his own, and if it is a minor thing that isn't going to maime or kill anyone it should just be left alone. My father says Naybe, instead of Maybe and for the life of me I can't understand why and if I am the only one who hears that so I just let it go. He also says peoples names wrong always, his good buddy Daryl is often called Darren I forgive dad, cause really this is a minor thing I just think his mouth goes faster than his brain most days ahahaha somedays like my typing ahahaha thus my typos ahahahaha but hey if the message gets across what do I care ahahahahaha

Oh, I never actually CORRECT anyone for their grammar. It just makes me cringe! And again, when you're speaking it's very easy for simple mistakes to pop out. What really bugs me is when it's written...not so much in a forum or something casual, but in an email, or a report....come on, proofread at least. You can't go back and correct your speech but you can always correct your typing! Especially if you're sending it to someone you're working with.

A college English professor comes in the bar where I work. He will not hesitate to correct grammar. It drives him crazy when people end a sentence in a preposition or use a double negative. I do it all the time to drive him crazy.:sneaky: My favorites are, "I ain't got no"and "that's where it's at". He cringes, I laugh. I hate when he uses words like "colloquialism". Of course, he'll slide that in whenever he can.

I agree that when we are 'professionals' at work we should pay attention to our spelling and grammar ( thanks goodness for spell checks etc) but here in the forum or when I send e-mails I tend to write as I speak....in a far less formal way. I try to correct the typos before I post but sometimes you just want to 'get on with it' and the corrections get misssed.
I also use a lot of ......... don't know if people are irritated by this.

"I ain't got no" is funny. Pretty much everyone knows "ain't" isn't technically a word so when you say it it's almost like you're being facetious. Which is great! I think when you're at a bar it's OK to use informal language. Sometimes when you're at a bar you're lucky to even be able to make complete sentences.
