im potty training my 2 year old "what a knightmare" has anyone got any good tips they can share?:-3

Boy or girl?

If a young 2, may be too young and then you are in for a year of accidents in pants if you push it. Closer to 3 I can tell you what worked for my boy and then my girl. For my boy I was getting desperate and a friend told me to go to Dr. Phil website....I didn't have hopes too high, but checked it out. He had a detailed plan but what really did it for my son was Dr. Phil's idea for the child to get to call a superhero!! That did it for him! My son got to call spiderman after he started using the potty! And that was it. Now for my daughter....she is 3 now and I told her something yesterday that changed everything....told her I would take her on a special shopping trip!!!!! Should have seen the look on her face! Hasn't pooped yet---which is the challenge we are working on. I will keep you posted and good luck on your end...(no pun intended!! lol..)

I agree with Robin, just because the child is two doesn't mean they are physical and emotional ready for potty training. Consistency is the key: take them to the potty at the same time of day, whether it is after meals, every 2 hours, etc. Works as well with adults with this issue, as with youngsters. Consistency!

My wife has a great positive re-enforcement approach. She went out and bought some "special" Big Boys underwear. (Whatever the child is interested in such as Spiderman prints, etc.)

If your son goes correctly, he gets to wear the big boy's underwear, but if there is an accident, he can't have them back until he can do it correctly.

I like this approach, since it rewards good behavior, instead of punishing bad. I use the same techniques in the classroom with spectacular results.

Was the "accident" in underwear or pullup/diaper? This is my point. When they are ready, there are NO accidents. I have 3 children and have never had a poopy pair of pants. NOT ONE! I swear! LOL....but its true. Dont rush them.....this will all pass

Ps...my mother in law swears her boys were potty trained by age 1...Yeah right!!! I would love to ask her how many wet/poopy undies she changed!! And if this is getting a little too graphic for some, you're probably at another stage of life and don't really belong here!! LOL

the accident was in pants "wet", i kept calm and explained about the toilet again and the following times she asked for the toilet! she is loving the attention shes getting when she goes:)

-Mine was a boy(so easy to potty train it was scary)



He never had any candy I didnt beleive in it back then, so reeces pieces , 1 piece for number one in the toilet and 2 pieces for number 2. Beleive it or not less than a week, a month and was totally potty trained!!! No night time accidents, but then anyone that came over would get "watch, watch" ah, no honey, thats just for mommy and daddy. Oh I dream of those precious moments, before the teenage years, one could only hope!!!!!

That is so cute Jasmund! I really believe when they are physically ready (as obviously your son was), there are no accidents. I want to share something the pediatricians are saying now....that daytime and night time potty training are not to be associated with each other. They are 2 completely different things. Accidents are to be expected up until the age of 5 while sleeping/at night and no child can help it. It is a developmental thing. Therefore my boys were in pullups at night until around age 5 and guess what?!! I havent' changed ONE wet bed yet either!!! WOOHOO!!!

Your daughter is sooooo cute..

I think you have received very good ideas here. Just be aware if it doesn't seem to be working in a couple of week, stop and wait a couple of weeks then start again. Some times in the waiting period they come to you and say I need to potty, or mommy hurry I need to you know what. Often in the waiting period they come to realize they don't like SOGGY WET DIAPERS ANYMORE.. GOOD LUCK.. :-6
