I don't know what local politicians' responsibilities are in the UK, but how can you chastise the government for not being ready, and in the same breath call the mayor "genuinely heroic"?



This is a great example of the problem with a large centralized national government. Local & state politicians have an excuse for inaction; national politicians can point to other legitimate priorities. Let's deflate this bloated whore back to the small constitutional government that was originally designed.

I think you can hand out blame to just about anybody involved too, in one form or another.
I just heard that WalMart had 2 loaded trucks in N.O. on day 2 that FEMA turned away. We should've let WalMart handle the crisis.
