i went to a wedding of a friend from school

if im honest i think it was anawful wedding but anyway thats not the point of the thread!

im not a big drinker, never have been to be honest it just makes me feel ill and i dont enjoy it at all.... however that means i was surrounded by all my friends from school (were still all really close which is quite unusual to be in our 20's and still friends with your school friendship group) and some of them were seriously off their trolley.....

it was actually kinda disturbing to watch..... i cant explain it but watching all your friends unable to focus on you properly and unable to walk in a straight line.... not my idea of fun tbh....

just a passing thought i wanted to share!

I think it's a little odd to see anyone in a new role you've never seen: your grouchy boss being a loving father & husband, for instance. But it's more weird to see kids in adult roles. I've been in your situation, Pink, except that I eventually got drunk as well :o . I think the strangest I felt was seeing my neice as a new mom. Made me feel old.

think i didnt explain myself very well there.....

(my fault)

ive seen them all like it before.... we all meet up quite often, we phone regularly etc etc but everytime we get together theres a certain few who always get completely 100% pi$$ed......

one of whom is my best friend

thing is they are too immature to handle it despite the fact they are old enough to know better

for example going to a club in london and getting so far gone that you end up sleeping on the streets of london..... its just dangerous.... i wish theyd go a bit easier... its like their aim is that they have to get drunk....... its disturbing and worrying and makes me wanna stay sober even more so i can look out for them!

Could be a sign of addiction pp (:wah: )

Its not really about knowing better its possible alcohol has got them in its grip.

thats kinda what worried me, the fact that whenever we got out anywhere like a wedding the whole point of the evening seems to be to have waaayyyy to much to drink

im not intimating that they are alcoholics or anything and i dont think thats the direction they are headed but id rather be they be able to go out and not drink.... they even got their parents to drive them there and pick them up so that they didnt have to drive....

ie so they could have a drink

I have a few friends who are binge drinkers and I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's kind of a sign of immaturity, but then most of us ARE immature in our early twenties. I've noticed a lot of them are starting to taper off with the excessive weekend drinking. They're graduating, having babies, getting married and growing up.

I usually just tell them they can call me if they need a driver and make sure the more promiscuous amongst them have protection.

I'm sure that in two years less than half of them will be the bumbling idiots that they are right now. And you'll have plenty of pictures of them doing embarassing things to use as blackmail for the future.

sad that its such a big part of it all for them

Have to agree with you pp. I personally can't stand binge drinkers, especially the ones who the day after get told of what they did the night before, and laugh it off. I for one, am not a drinker so will thankfully not have to face any kind of similiar embarassement.

I know exactly what you mean. I like to have a glass of wine or two, but the attitude seems to be ....a party...lets get p****d....and they do.!!! I normally drive myself so that when they start' bouncing off the walls', fighting being generally unpleasant, I can leave...is this a British thing ??? Binge drinking etc ???

You're right about it being dangerous as well....They get so 'out of it' that they stagger into roads, could get mugged, wake up the next day feeling ill....stupid , stupid, stupid. It sounds boring, but people should be able to enjoy themselves without getting drunk. I can...it's the dunks that stop others' having a good time. At the end of the day, they will do what they want and you just have to hope they grow out of it.

Seems to be part of British culture now to go out for the sole purpose of getting drunk. Many people I know are half drunk before they even get near a pub. I have been drunk on many occasions but never go out with that as my aim. I go out to have fun and if I get drunk as part of it then so be it, but to me going out just to get drunk seems kinda sad.

No, it's not just a British thing! It's kind of a club culture thing. Of course, I kind of understand. I can't dance unless I'm a wee bit drunk, but there's definately a limit. Pleasantly buzzed and doing the hustle to "Milkshake" is one thing, but so drunk you can barely stand is another.
