It was on the front page of today's paper, a 5 year old
little girl holding the hand of a 105 year old woman as she
sat in her wheelchair. They were being evacuated. It
brought me to tears. To think of all the things the 105 year
old has seen in her life and lived through. And the 5 year
old has a story to tell already. There was just a caption
with the photo, no story, but it makes you wonder. Where
are the families of these 2, if any? Probably the oldest
survivor of Katrina... and one of the youngest.
Anybody else see it?

I searched for awhile & couldn't find that one, but this one could be in the running for a pullitzer.
Thanks for the link, Scrat.

'Evening all, randall here, again,
Almost concurrently with the story about the 105 year old woman came, in our press, the story that the oldest woman in the world (with a burth certificate that can be checked - in Italy?) had just died.
In Britain a few weeks ago a couple were celebrating their 80 odd wedding anniversary - I'more than half way there - and when asked what was the secret of a long marriage the repllies were interesting.
The woman 105, I believe said, "I don't think that there is a secret. We've always been just, well, happy together, havent we dear?" looking at her 104 year old husband. ensconced comfortably in an easy chair with hands clasped on his thighs.
"Yes dear," he replied.
When he was asked the secret he replied, "Learning to say 'Yes Dear' very early in the marriage!'"
I learned that long ago.
Sadly the poor old man passed away a week or two later in his sleep a happy and contented man.
Something to learn from this?
God bless you all.
randall.

Race had absolutely nothing to do with this horrible situation! No one in authority ever could have fathomed how devistating Katrina actually turned out to be. They were "totally" unprepaired, as they really didn't understand the ramifications, of what they were predicting. They said the words, but they did not really understand the gravity of them. They did not even know where to send the evacuated people, as they had no real viable emergency plan in place. When their "makeshift" plans crumbled and they had to evacuate & "relocate""hundreds of "thousands" of people, it didn't matter wheather they were White, Red, Yellow,
or African American, (It just so happened that the majority of the people in those areas were people of color, it would have been the same in any other area also like that) it was just an impossiblity to evacuate all of those "people" any quicker, under those dangerous cumbersome "flooded" conditions! The "rescuers" needed to work in fairly favorable conditions, so as not to become victims themselves! It was just an absolute impossible all around horrible situation, that the authorities were definetely not prepaired for!!!

Thanx Acct.,
Found more on her and the story:
Nita LaGarde, 105, was pushed down the street in her wheelchair as her nurse's 5-year-old granddaughter, Tanisha Blevin, held her hand. The pair spent two days in an attic, two days on an interstate island and the last four days on the pavement in front of the convention center.
"They're good to see," LaGarde said, with remarkable gusto as she waited to be loaded onto a gray Marine helicopter. She said they were sent by God. "Whatever He has for you, He'll take care of you. He'll sure take care of you." LaGarde's nurse, Ernestine Dangerfield, 60, said LaGarde had not had a clean adult diaper in more than two days. "I just want to get somewhere where I can get her nice and clean," she said.

Morning All, randall here.
Can any one in simple terms tell a dumb old sea salt how to put my country's flag and other things, in very simple terms, that's important, at the side of the posts I send in - I am not a spy and have nothing to hide.
