Are the Yankees going to catch them and waht about white sox blowing a 15 game lead.

It would not be a baseball season without the usual BoSox/Yankees dogfight to the end.. it will prolly be decided in the last series between the two teams..

Chicago is gonna sooo choke.. Ozzie Guillan is a nutcase manager.. it would not surprize me to see the 15 game collapse go down as the second biggest choke in sports history..

I have just subscribed to NASN over here and they have been covering the Tribe vs White sox series and it has been fantastic, I get the games a day later but that's ok as all the commercials are edited out. two games I have seen so far 7-5 and 6-7 very exciting although I dont exactly understand the nuances of the game yet. I have to say that some of the fielding plays are unbelievable, so far my vote goes to Uribe at Short stop for the sox.

e.g. why would you "Walk" a player, is it that a batter can be such a threat that you can't take the risk.

One other question, when the catcher is signalling what pitch he wants the pitcher to throw who makes that decision, catcher, coach who?

Sorry It has taken so long to respond to your questions, as my team the Cincinnati Reds are out of the running once again, hence my neglect to be interested In the remainder of the Baseball Season.

To anwser your question,

There are a few reasons pitchers intentionally walk batters. One being, a batter of tremendous power who are always a threat to hit home-runs( these types of batters are usually focused on one thing- That Is to step up to the plate trying to simply hit the ball as hard as they can). These batters are usually In the #4 slot. Logic being the 1, 2, and 3 batters are single hitters(meaning they try and loop the ball in the out field to get on base, as they do not have the strength of the "powerhitters" as I mentioned)so that the home-run hitters can hit a home-run with as many people on base as possible In order to accumulate more points.These powerhitters, such as Barry Bonds(I dont know If you are fimiliar with him but he holds the MLB record for home-runs hit In a single season)are somewhat scarce, as not all teams have them.

Another reason pitchers intentionally walk batters, Is In a situation where there are two outs and a batter happens to be In the number eight hitting spot, pitchers walk them to face the apposing pitcher, who are mostly If not always In the #9 hitting slot.Logic being, that the pitcher Is always concidered a sure out, as pitchers main focus In practice are pitching and pitching alone.Therefore having no batting skills whatsoever.

To answer your second question.A catchers duties are more than just catching the ball being pitched to him.Catchers are a "third coach" In many ways, because they study batters weaknesses on films prior to playing oponents, thus telling the pitcher where to pitch the ball against certain batters who have weaknesses In hitting high ptches, low pitches, outside pitches etc.Having said that, the Catcher Is the real statagist when It comes to telling the pitcher what he "should" throw.Then the pitcher has the option to say he doesn't want to throw that pitch, as he would In that case feel his opinion on the next pitch would be a better option(this due to the pitchers confidence In what he likes to throw as a pitcher).Having said that, once the two(being the pitcher and the catcher) comes to a mutual agreement, the pitcher then nods his head to the pitch he wishes to throw. After the pitch the process starts all over again.

(Note: Pitchers only have certain types of pitches they can throw. A catcher has a signal for each of the pitches the pitcher Is able to throw)

main MLB pitches include:

Fast ball

Split fingered fast ball

Curve ball

Screw ball

Forkball

Slider

Slurve(combination of Slider and Curve ball)

Sinker

Knuckleball

Change up(Pitcher throws arm with the speed of a fastball but releases

the ball slower than normal to confuse the batter)

I haven't had the interest in B-Ball this season that I usually do.. Other than to say the San Diego Padres are the worst first place team I have ever seen..

WOW K! Thanks that just about got the lot, Barry(I never took anything)Bonds I am familiar with. I was interested that he now says he has to "Bulk Down" because of his dodgy knee?????, yes Barry of course you do.

The problem with this is that I am becoming obsessed by this bloody game, I think it's becasue like my other sporting love, cricket it is a game dominated by statistics, I am just getting my head around ERA's, RBI's etc etc
