Oh yep have that loads up times, sorry to hear u have the same. I have this type of cushion called a humbug, and it fits nicely around your neck. You can then heat it up and it seems to make the pain go away. It's really affective, so hopefully u could try and find something similiar, and see if it works for u.

is it possible you have a ruptured disc? pinched nerve? you should have it checked out Robin.

thanks Chris and LC! Well that neck thing sounds great especially if it would reduce the range of motion so I wouldn't keep using my neck and wincing!! Can't even unload the dishwasher! LC I did have a bulging disc in lower back at one time and I babied it til I felt better, but I didn't know this could happen up high by the neck. I guess we have discs all the way up the spine! I could run over to my parents and have my dad (doc) look at it, but I dunno.....doctors daughter.....never got much medical attention!! LOL! (I will say, dad it hurts to do this...and he will say...don't do that!)

Yeah it's a great little thing. At first I was scepticle that it would work, but it really does work. You simply put it around your neck, leave it for 30 minutes and it seems to ease the pain. I wouls recommend it if u could find it. I can't guarantee that it will stop the pain, but hopefully it may ease it for ya. Hope u get better soon Robin!!

Hmm well that would be difficult seeing as how it was bought over here in the UK and not in the US. I'm sure though that you can find something similiar near u. If my memory serves me right when I was in Vegas, I passed a few specialist shops that dealt with relaxing and comfort. Perhaps u may have a similiar shop near u too where u could find one.

Robins, see your Dad...you can have a disc problem in your neck around L5 and you can't ignore it or self-treat.

LC is right Robins.. the disc between my 5th and 6th is around 75% deteriorated.. causes the exact pains you are talking about.. comes from a pinched nerve in there.. I would head to the Dr. and get it checked so you can start to manage the pain..

good luck and keep us updated

how wierd am suffering exactly that right now!

one side started to hurt but im sure thats because i got a new bag and i think just from carrying a bag differently to how im used to my shoulder kinda gave up (!) and then the ollowing morning i stretched when i woke up but because one side hurt i was kinda unbalanced with the stretch and pulled something in my other shoulder!!

last night i went to bed with a hot water bottle on it which helped but after a day at work typing on a computer...... am back to square one.....

gonna get the other half to give me a massge i think!

mines not a disc or anything scary like LC mentioned...... i hope! nah seriously mines all self inflicted stupidity!

Oh, I hate that feeling! My back is all jacked up, and if I don't sleep on the right pillow, I wake up barely able to move.

I saw a chiropractor for a long time when I first got back pain. Weird thing is, my pain was down low, and the problem was in my neck. Apparently, the very top of your spinal column, at the base of your skull, is supposed to have a bend. My spine right there is pencil-straight. Your spine can affect so many things! Absolutely get looked at. Nothing you want to mess around with!

A temporary solution for the pain is BIOFREEZE. This stuff is amazing. I use it on all my aches, pinches and cramps caused by my treatments. The tingling is actually rather pleasant and it works immediately!

I used to suffer neck pain a lot. Used to last a week. Usually caused by a draught from the open window when driving. Nothing would relieve it. Then I found that neck rolling and shoulder hunches stopped it from happening. So long as you haven't got a spinal or posture problem that is.

Princess, I have gotten alot of info from Far Rider.... he has been through quite a bit with his neck/back! I pm'd him and he is a wealth of knowledge on this! I've even got a book he recommended that I am going to get. Good luck! Mine is definately better, but I can still feel it. Think I need a good Chinese buffet today.............ah that would help!!!!! LOL

Princess, I used to find that rubbing a muscle rub like Deep Heat into the affected areas used to help, although not straight away. I'm lucky that I can reach any part of my back. But not many people can so you may need someone to do this for you. basically, it's the muscles that are affected. They get stiff because they don't get much chance to relax or they can be affected by draughts. When you get over it and if you suffer this a lot, do the neck rolls and shoulder hunches regularly. It certainly works for me and they haven't come back.

My thoughts are with you.:yh_sad

Well I have some knowledge here with the NECK issue.. I like Far Rider have suffered from a broken neck since 1967.. I to had surgery.. It worked somewhat..

When my neck get all tweaked out I take meds, turn on the heating pad and relax for as long as I can.. Most nights I sleep on the heating pad..

Don't let it go to long or you start damaging your nerves in you arm and neck.. It is very painful for sure..

Just be aware of what your doing that causes the pain, and don't do it if at all possible..

ok im admitting defeat, am going to the doctors in a little over an hour....

its now another 3 days off work and another thing thats gone wrong with me

im probably being over dramatic but last time i went to the doctors they misdiagnosd me 4/5 times and i wound up in hospital

i know there cant really be anything seriously wrong with me but it doesnt stop me being scared.....

hearts already starting to race and my hands are all clammy..... i hate doctors, me scared....

Ah I sorry to hear that PP!! I'm not really a fan of doctors or hospitals myself so I kinda feel what you're going through.

I'm sure that everything is going to be fine, so try to keep your chin up, think positve and try to stay calm. Perhaps you can think of something that relaxes u and keep that image in your mind to calm your nerves down.

I wish u all the best for your visit and hope all turns out well. My thoughts are with ya this morning. :-6

ok - update:

went to doctors, he reckoned id done something to a facet joint..... he offered pain killers (none of which i can take because of my pre-existing stomach problem) diasapam which i didnt fancy because i dont really want to be taking a sedative and i dont like putting things in your body that wouldnt normally be there and also physio....

so.... ive just got back from physio - he said its not a facet joint because of one basic very simple thing which i cant believe my doctor didnt pick up on... apparently facet nerves dont like being closed but because i can put my head all the way back its nothing to do with it.... flippin doctors are useless - another misdiagnosis

physio man reckons its gonna take like 3 sessions to fix, apparently its a nerve thing not a muscle thing......

so what i thought was nothign has turned out to be something

oh and the doctor said i shouldnt be at work and physio man said im ok to but im gonna be in a LOT of pain......

so am gonna go back to work tomorrow i think and get on with it.... got to go back to physio on saturday, he was serisouly easy on me today gave me like 20% brutality, mostly because its so bad he couldnt really do anything! so basically i got a half hour massage!!

OW and flippin whatsits another thing gone wrong...... i want some good luck for once!

Hi, Princess.

That must make you feel a bit better just knowing what it is.

Best of luck with the physio.
